Cyclists are about to have a new way to see the east coast. First conceived in 1991, the East Coast Greenway is set for completion in a few years. With its completion, it will become the nation’s longest bike path at 2,900-miles-long. “It’s about seeing America at the right speed, where you can take...

We will be having a dedication for the “Warrior Trail” bicycle and walking path on Saturday, July 30th at 10:00am. It will be held at the new shelter house that is located on the south end of Main Street trail site in Ohio City. At that time the Trail Committee will be giving away two bicycles absolutely free, thanks to Ed “Fast Eddie” and Jacquie Reinemeyer and “The Bike Hub” of Celina, Ohio.

Anyone that attends the short dedication will receive a ticket. At the end we will draw out two numbers, one for a woman’s bicycle and one for a man’s that will be giving out to two lucky people in no particular order.

We are still accepting donations for “Friends of the Trail”, for additions and upkeep for the shelter and along the path itself. – See attachment – The deadline for this October 1st for your name of group’s name to be included on the permanent sign that will be at the shelter location.

OHIO CITY — Groundbreaking for the Warrior Bicycle Trail was held Tuesday morning in Ohio City. Those attending the ceremony were members of the Van Wert County Port Authority, Van Wert Park District, Ohio City Trail Committee, and the mayor of Ohio City.

These individuals met with VTF Excavation, the trail contractors, to review the specific details for the trail construction. The trail will be built in stages.

This year it will be constructed from Liberty-Union Road to Rt. 127 on the abandoned railroad track. The Van Wert County Park District received easement from the Port Authority to be used for the trail and is responsible for the maintenance and signage of that area.

Phase II of the trail construction will come at a later date. The entire project will extend ten miles.

Completion date for this part of the construction is July 15 and work on the project will start immediately.
