The Ohatchee Police Department would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped make it possible for our agency to receive four (4) Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) units through funding available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and administered in Alabama through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
Clint Harrell, Director of the Regional Highway Traffic Safety Office at Central Alabama Community College, did an outstanding job coordinating the process and assisting with pickup and logistics.

These new PBT devices will allow our department to place this important equipment directly into the hands of officers, to assist in identifying impaired drivers and improve roadway safety throughout our community.

As we begin National Police Week, the Ohatchee Police Department proudly honors the brave men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and our nation.

Please take a moment this week to remember and honor those who gave their lives in the line of duty and to show appreciation to the officers who continue to serve each day with courage, professionalism, and dedication.

Law enforcement is more than a profession it is a commitment to protecting others, often during difficult and dangerous circumstances. This week serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made not only by officers, but also by their families who stand beside them through every call, every late night, and every challenge.

The Ohatchee Police Department would like to thank all law enforcement officers, and public safety personnel for their unwavering service and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Calhoun County is currently under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather as we move into the overnight hours of Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

While widespread severe storms are not expected, a few storms could become strong to severe, especially during the overnight timeframe.

Isolated, brief tornadoes (mainly to our west, but could impact nearby areas). Damaging wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines. Hail up to quarter size. Heavy rainfall leading to localized flash flooding.

The timeline for the forecast is late Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning. Our greatest concern will be overnight while many are asleep.

We could experience brief but dangerous conditions with little warning, especially overnight. There is a potential for localized flash flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas and isolated power outages due to strong winds.

Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts (phone alerts, weather radio, apps). Do not rely solely on outdoor warning sirens, especially while indoors or asleep.
Prepare and identify your safe place in your home (lowest level, away from windows).

Use caution if traveling overnight and remember to never drive through flooded roadways.

The Ohatchee Police Department will also be monitoring weather conditions and will provide updates as needed.

Stay weather aware and be prepared.
