Calhoun County is currently under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather as we move into the overnight hours of Wednesday and early Thursday morning.
While widespread severe storms are not expected, a few storms could become strong to severe, especially during the overnight timeframe.
Isolated, brief tornadoes (mainly to our west, but could impact nearby areas). Damaging wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines. Hail up to quarter size. Heavy rainfall leading to localized flash flooding.
The timeline for the forecast is late Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning. Our greatest concern will be overnight while many are asleep.
We could experience brief but dangerous conditions with little warning, especially overnight. There is a potential for localized flash flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas and isolated power outages due to strong winds.
Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts (phone alerts, weather radio, apps). Do not rely solely on outdoor warning sirens, especially while indoors or asleep.
Prepare and identify your safe place in your home (lowest level, away from windows).
Use caution if traveling overnight and remember to never drive through flooded roadways.
The Ohatchee Police Department will also be monitoring weather conditions and will provide updates as needed.
Stay weather aware and be prepared.
