Overnight, members responded to Wells to assist with a vessel that had become stranded on the rocks off Ocean Avenue near Moody. Marine 1 responded and staged off the stern of the vessel while Wells Maine Fire Department personnel accessed the boat from shore and safely removed the sole occupant and transferred the occupant to Marine 1 for transport to Perkins Cove. The individual was evaluated by EMS personnel and transported for further medical assessment by Wells EMS.

Incidents like this highlight the unique challenges of operating in a coastal area. Water rescues often require personnel on shore, on the water, and providing medical care simultaneously, all while working in difficult conditions and coordinating with multiple agencies. These calls underscore the importance of maintaining adequate staffing levels to ensure we can safely and effectively respond to emergencies both within Ogunquit and throughout our mutual aid region.

Due to the mildly depressing weather forecast for tomorrow, the Town of Ogunquit has opted to cancel our Memorial Day Parade. We hope everyone still finds a way to honor and remember all those who have served. And hey, it doesn't hurt to pray for better weather while you're at it 🌞

The members of the Ogunquit Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and members of the Boston Fire Department following the tragic line-of-duty death of Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr.

Across the fire service, we share a bond built on sacrifice, service, and commitment to our communities. Today, we mourn alongside Boston and honor a firefighter who gave his life in service to others.

Rest easy, brother.

Looking out the window this morning, we thought there was a fire across the street. Turns out it was just an incredible sunrise lighting up the sky.

This morning, crews were getting Marine One ready for service when they noticed something unexpected onboard. With summer right around the corner, it looks like our migratory friends are making their return!

Anyone know what species this might be? 😜

Either way, Marine One is back in service—and just in time for all our seasonal visitors.

For the last 17 hours, we have watched some incredibly brave police officers take on the icy waves for a Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run (for Special Olympics)— including our very own Ogunquit Police Department Deputy Chief Wade.

She is now closing in on the top fundraising spot, and we know this community can help push her to the top before they hit the water for the final time later today. Let’s show Deputy Chief Wade just how proud we are of her dedication, courage, and willingness to step up in support of this important cause.

Earlier this week, our members came together for extrication training using new rescue equipment purchased through the support of our wonderful taxpayers, along with the new black turnout gear now worn by our team.

Extrication training helps keep our members prepared to respond to serious motor vehicle accidents where occupants may be trapped. These new tools improve our ability to stabilize vehicles and, using what many people know as the “Jaws of Life,” safely remove victims from twisted metal during an accident.

And while you’re checking out the photos, take a look at the new PFAS-free turnout gear our members are sporting! This new gear helps reduce exposure to harmful chemicals while maintaining the high level of protection firefighters need on the job.

We are grateful for the community’s continued support, which helps ensure our department has the training and equipment needed to serve when emergencies happen. 🚒
