Fire preparedness and water conservation can go hand in hand. A well-maintained landscape can help prepare your property for wildfire, while responsible irrigation helps protect our shared water resources.

How you landscape can play an important role in preparing your home and property for wildfire.

Landscaping Tips:

🌿Clear dry vegetation: Remove dead leaves, branches, and other flammable debris from and around your property.

🏡Create fire-resistant plants: Keep vegetation and combustible materials appropriately maintained and separated from structures.

🌱Choose fire-resistant plants: When adding or replacing landscaping, consider plants that are well suited to our dry Utah Climate and are less likely to ignite.

💧Water Wisely: Give your landscape the water it needs without overwatering. Adjust your irrigation as temperatures and seasonal water needs change.

✂️Maintain your landscape: Keep plants, grass, and trees healthy, remove dead growth, and keep vegetation properly maintained.

💦Did you know that daily, shallow watering doesn’t do much to help your lawn stay healthy, green or drought resistant? 💦

Lawns need deep, infrequent watering to force grass roots to grow downward in search of moisture. Aim for 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week, including any rainfall.

To measure this, you can perform the “tuna can test”. Place an empty tuna can (or any container that is roughly 1 inch deep) on your lawn, then time how long it takes your sprinklers to fill it up. If it takes 20 minutes to fill the can, then you know to water for 20 minutes, twice a week.

Harmful algal blooms are currently present at Pineview Reservoir and Lost Creek Reservoir. Harmful algal blooms produce toxins that can make humans and animals sick.
❌ Do not drink the water
❌ Do not swim, wade, or jet/water ski
⚠️ Do not paddle in areas of algae
⚠️ Fishing is OK, but discard skin and guts
✅ Boating is OK

Ever wondered how much secondary water you are allotted per season?

Allocations are based on property size and when the property was brought into Pineview Water Systems service area. Additionally, it is calculated by how many acres were brought in when it came into the District. All new developments are based on our water efficiency standards.

☀️Did you know that watering in the middle of the day is never ideal and incredibly inefficient? ☀️

When the sun is at its peak, temperatures are at their highest, and the water evaporates before it ever reaches the root zone where the water is most needed for grass.

The best time to water your lawn is between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

To do so, create a portal account with Pineview Water

Email [email protected] to set up your portal account. By doing this, you will be able to:

• View your water usage
• When you are watering
• How much of your allotment has been used this season

If you have already set up your portal account, be sure to log in and check it regularly. This allows you to monitor and see how much water you have been using and how much water you have left for the current watering season.

Why do we have water restrictions?

Nearly all of Utah is in a drought status with 59% being in extreme drought. With wildfire danger escalating across the state, drought conditions are straining the water supply.

Water restrictions help protect our shared water supply, reduce unnecessary waste, and ensure that there is enough water for homes, businesses, firefighters and essential services.

A couple of ways you can help conserve water include:
