People hear the phrase “safe shelter” and often picture a building.

But safety is actually a feeling.

Sometimes safety looks like:
😴 Sleeping through the night.
🍛 Eating consistently.
🏡 Not worrying where you’ll be tomorrow.
🤣 Laughing hard enough that you forget to stay guarded for a minute.
👩‍🦳 Having adults around who don’t disappear the second things get messy.

A lot of the youth we work with have spent years living in survival mode.
And survival mode changes people.

So before future plans… before goals… before stability… there’s usually one very important step first: Helping the nervous system believe it can finally exhale.

That’s part of what Youth Futures creates.

People always want the big success stories.

The dramatic before-and-after. The movie ending. The perfect outcome.
And sure… sometimes we get those moments.

But honestly, a lot of success around here starts way smaller than people think.

A kid answering their phone instead of disappearing. Coming back before curfew. Going to therapy even when they don’t want to. Applying for a job. Taking a shower after a rough few days. Asking for help instead of exploding.

That stuff matters.

Because real change usually doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in tiny decisions stacked over time while somebody steady stands nearby saying, “Keep going.”
I think the world underestimates how hard it is for some young people just to feel safe enough to try again.

That’s why we celebrate the little wins around here like they’re huge. Sometimes they are.

Progress is rarely one giant leap. Usually, it’s a kid deciding maybe tomorrow could feel different than yesterday.

We are honored to share that a portion of the proceeds from the TDS Open 2026 Charity Golf Event will benefit Youth Futures.

On Friday, July 17, golfers, sponsors, vendors, and community partners will gather in Verona, Wisconsin, for a day that turns connection into impact.

For Youth Futures, that impact means more than a donation. It means more young people can find safety, shelter, meals, outreach, trusted adults, and a path forward when they need it most.

This is Youth Futures in Cedar City.

A 12-bed emergency shelter for youth ages 12 to 18. A safe place for young people who have run away, are at risk of homelessness, are unaccompanied, or have nowhere else to go.

Some nights, five youth need shelter. Some nights, all 12 beds are full. Last year, 14 young people were in the shelter with us on Christmas Day.

That tells you something.

It tells you how many young people in our community are carrying more than they should. It also tells you why community support matters so much.

We provide three full meals a day, every day, because we never know when a young person will come to the door asking for help. We staff the shelter 24/7, with two staff members on at all times, because safety, supervision, and steady care are the central commitment we make to working with minors.

That means our biggest needs are very practical:

💵 Funding to support staff and shelter operations
🍇 Perishable food for teenagers with real teenage appetites
🧽 Cleaning supplies
🚻 Toilet paper
👋 Paper towels
🎒 Everyday items that are used constantly in a full shelter

We are so grateful to the Leavitt Group Culture Club of Southern Utah for helping share what Youth Futures does and why this work matters.

And we are grateful for every person who donates, drops off supplies, shares our story, or reminds young people that this community has not forgotten them.

UTSleepOut 2026 is returning to Ogden and St. George, and we would love for you to be part of it. 🌙

Each November, Youth Futures brings community members, businesses, families, and friends together for one of our most meaningful annual events. UTSleepOut is more than a fundraiser. It is a night of awareness, solidarity, and action during Youth Homelessness Awareness Month.

Funds raised through UTSleepOut support the work Youth Futures does every day, including emergency shelter, drop-in services, basic needs, and ongoing support for young people working toward safety, stability, care, and belonging.

Every ticket purchased, sponsorship secured, auction item donated, and invitation shared helps more people understand that youth homelessness matters and that Utah’s young people deserve better futures.

This year, there are even more ways to participate. You can buy tickets, explore sponsorship opportunities, donate to the online silent auction, visit the UTSleepOut Swag Shop, and help us make the Ogden and St. George events even more memorable.

We are so grateful to KJ’s Ice Barn and the talented skaters who are using their gifts to support Youth Futures Shelter Home through the U.S. Figure Skating Leave Your Mark campaign.

This Saturday, the Summer Spectacular on Ice will bring our community together for an evening of performances celebrating the Utah Summer Games and America’s 250th birthday. Admission is free, and donations are welcome to support Youth Futures Shelter Homes and KJ’s Ice Barn Skating Club.

For our youth, support can change everything. A trusted adult, a safe place to sleep, encouragement, mentorship, and community can help a young person begin to believe in a brighter future.

There is a teenager in Utah tonight who will sleep outside.

Not because they want to, or because they're rebellious or making bad choices!

Because they ran out of safe places to go.

A generous donor has offered to match the next $5,000 given to Youth Futures.

Maybe that's one person. Maybe it's two. Maybe it's twenty.

Maybe it’s YOU!

Either way, every dollar given right now goes twice as far toward making sure a kid has a bed instead of a sidewalk.

What if your next family reunion, birthday party, neighborhood BBQ, or holiday gathering could help a young person feel safe, seen, and supported?

One incredible Youth Futures supporter recently turned her family reunion into a fundraiser for youth experiencing homelessness. Her family hosted a bake sale, organized a scavenger hunt for needed items, and used the gathering as a way to teach kids and relatives about the work Youth Futures does across Utah.

The result?

Her family donated $1,200, along with handmade blankets and essential supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, shower gel, lotion, water, and more.

We are so grateful, and SO inspired.

This is such a beautiful reminder that generosity does not have to wait for a formal event. It can be folded into the celebrations we already love. A family reunion can become a service project. A birthday party can become a donation drive. A neighborhood gathering can become a moment of purpose, connection, and care.

Let’s prevent homelessness from happening in the first place!!

The founder of Youth Futures said an important statistic was discovered in their data from 2025: 82% of the program's graduates don't end up in the adult homeless system.
