Client success Story:
"N.B. was referred to Cottages of Hope in November 2021 by Vocational Rehab to assist in developing financial literacy skills. They had never created a budget, looked at their credit, and had been fighting with creditors to leave them alone. N.B. had $190 in savings, over $3,000 in medical debt, and a credit score of 471. They struggled to maintain employment and jumped from place to place, always leaving jobs due to disagreements with coworkers.
N.B. was employed 8 hours a week when they started coming to Cottages. They began with an employment coach to build a barrier-free resume, develop interview skills, and discuss the barriers to maintaining employment. They worked together to find a place of employment offering more hours. They obtained a position in customer service that ended about two months after it began. After searching for a while more, they got another role in customer service, making $13.00 an hour part-time at 20 hours a week, which has been maintained for almost a year with an expression of satisfaction.
N.B. attended Budget 101 and began developing financial literacy skills, learning about credit and the importance of money management. They have been tracking their spending and maintaining a budget for over a year. During that time, they utilized the money they saved from budgeting and their 2021 tax return to pay off $1,360 of the medical debt. Their credit has increased by 104 points to 575. Through quarterly assessments, N.B. has reported increased confidence in managing debt, credit, and a budget.
We are excited to see N.B. progress even further! Congrats!
