Are you an optimist, a pessimist, or a prepper? 💧🤔

While the optimist sees the glass as half full and the pessimist sees it as half empty, the prepared resident knows it's best to just have a few extra barrels on standby! 😉

Here in Weber County, we know that hope is not a strategy. Whether we are facing a severe winter storm, a power outage, or an earthquake on the Wasatch Fault, having emergency supplies ready gives you and your family peace of mind.

You don't need 7,035 glasses of water on reserve right away, but starting small makes a huge difference!

💧 Quick Water Storage Tip:
Aim for one gallon of water per person, per day, for at least three days. Don't forget to factor in extra water for your pets!

Don't rely on luck. Be prepared.

💡 Power out? Don't sit in the dark!

Try this genius emergency preparedness hack to instantly turn a single light source into a lantern that illuminates an entire room.

Here’s what you need:

1 Clear gallon water jug (full of water)

1 Headlamp

How to make your DIY Lantern:

Grab your clear water jug.

Strap the headlamp around the middle of the jug.

Make sure the light is facing inward toward the water.

Why it works: The water diffuses and amplifies the beam, turning a harsh, focused ray of light into a soft, glowing lantern!

Pro-Tip: Don't have a headlamp? No problem! You can easily tape a standard flashlight face-down against the opening of the water jug for the exact same effect.

🚨 Emergency Prep Tip: Why This $2 Cleaning Staple Belongs in Your 72-Hour Kit 🚨

When assembling an emergency supply stash, we usually think of food, water, and flashlights. But don't overlook basic sanitation! Keeping a can of powder cleanser (like Ajax) on hand is a massive advantage when the grid goes down.

Here is why it’s a powerhouse for emergency preparedness:

Long-Term Shelf Life: Unlike liquid bleach, which loses its potency after 6 to 12 months, dry powder cleansers last for years if kept dry. No need to constantly rotate your stock!

Saves Your Water: In a disaster, every drop of water counts. Because it's a powder, you only need a tiny amount of moisture to create a powerful cleaning paste, preserving your drinking water.

Heavy-Duty Decontamination: If you're dealing with flood residue, soot on camp stoves, or mud-slicked tools, the mild abrasive texture cuts through grime that regular soap can't touch.

Sanitation & Odor Control: If water or waste systems fail, keeping temporary latrines and trash areas scrubbed helps neutralize odors and keeps disease-carrying pests away.

No Spills: In an earthquake or storm, liquid bottles can crack and leak, ruining your other supplies. A cardboard or plastic canister of powder keeps your storage safe.

⚠️ SAFETY FIRST: If your powder cleanser contains bleach, never mix it with ammonia or other household chemicals. Doing so creates toxic gases—especially dangerous in an enclosed emergency shelter.
