As the weather warms up, OPD often sees an increase in groups gathering in business parking lots and on private property, especially after hours.

You may notice Letter of Agency signs posted at many properties around Ogden. These signs let the public know that property owners have requested help from Ogden Police officers to address trespassing, disturbances, property damage, or individuals refusing to leave.

For the public, this means that if you are on private property without permission, especially when a business is closed or after you have been asked to leave, you may be cited or charged for trespassing.

We understand people want places to gather, but parking lots and private business properties are not always the right place, especially when it impacts business owners, customers, employees, nearby residents, or public safety.

Respecting private property helps support safe neighborhoods, local businesses, and public spaces that are welcoming for everyone.

Please follow posted signs, be respectful of property owners and staff, and leave when asked by the property owner, business staff, or officers.

Thank you for helping us keep Ogden safe, respectful, and welcoming for everyone.

OPD was proud to host a Law Enforcement Bike Association, or LEBA, training program right here in Ogden, bringing officers from agencies across northern Utah together to train and become certified bike officers.

Bike patrol is a great way for officers to stay visible, move easily through parks, trails, events, and busy areas, and connect with Ogden residents face to face.

Congratulations to all the newly certified bike officers! If you see OPD bike patrol officers out and about this summer, make sure you say hello!

Remembering Officer Nathan Lyday

Today, we pause to honor and remember Officer Nathan Lyday, an Ogden City police officer who gave his life in the line of duty while serving and protecting our community.

Officer Lyday was 24 years old and had served with the Ogden City Police Department for 15 months when he was fatally wounded while responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 300 block of Jackson Avenue on May 28, 2020.

Six years later, his service, sacrifice, and legacy continue to be deeply felt by our department, our city, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Nate is remembered for his humility, courage, kindness, and the way he carried himself, making those around him not only better police officers but better people.

We remain forever grateful for his service, his example, and the impact he made in his time with us. Officer Lyday will always be part of OPD and this city in a way that time cannot take away.

End of Watch: May 28, 2020
Gone, but never forgotten. 🕊️

Today, we swore in and welcomed three officers to the Ogden City Police Department.

Officer Anderson and Officer Black join OPD as new hires beginning their law enforcement careers, and Officer Ricks joins us as a lateral officer from a neighboring agency, continuing his career here in Ogden.

We are grateful these officers have chosen Ogden as the place to serve, grow, and make an impact. Their decision to bring their careers to OPD speaks volumes, and we are proud to welcome them to our department.

Thank you to Mayor Ben Nadolski and Ogden City Administration for their continued support of OPD and our mission. As they do at each of our swearing-in ceremonies, Mayor Nadolski and Chief Sube took time to personally welcome each officer to Ogden City. That support means a lot as we continue growing our team with dedicated, qualified individuals who are committed to serving this community well and keeping public safety a top priority in Ogden.

Congratulations to Officer Anderson, Officer Black, and Officer Ricks. We are excited to welcome you to the OPD family and can’t wait to watch you serve Ogden!

On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy today, and we will always remember them with the utmost gratitude and respect.

At the Ogden City Police Department, we honor and will always remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Happy Memorial Day.

Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and it also marks the start of the “100 Deadliest Days,” when serious and fatal crashes often increase during the summer months.

As we head into the holiday weekend, Chief Sube is reminding everyone to make safe choices on the road.

Whether you’re traveling for the weekend or staying local and enjoying home, please slow down, buckle up, put the phone away, and never drive impaired. Don’t become a statistic this holiday.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend, and as always, 🚗
