Last year, Boone County public safety agencies had the honor of sending a care package to a young boy from South Dakota who loved lights, sirens, emergency vehicles, and public safety patches.

Several local agencies came together to send patches and other items, and the Boone County Emergency Management Commission named him an Honorary Member of the Boone County Public Safety family.

Yesterday, we were saddened to learn that he has passed away.

Though he lived several hours from Boone County, his story touched many of us here. We are grateful that we were able to play a small part in bringing him joy and letting him know that he was supported by the public safety community.

To his family: please know that Boone County is thinking of you. He will always be remembered as an honorary member of our public safety family.

Rest easy, little brother. We’ll take it from here.

The school year is almost over! That means Chief Bailey gets to do one of his favorite parts of the school year which is meeting with the local preschool classes to talk with them about being a police officer! Each student got their own customized badge and took an oath to become junior officers! A big thank you to Ms. Audrey Reinken with Ogden Elementary Preschool and Mrs. Amanda Stephens with ELM Street Preschool for inviting Chief Bailey to speak with their students and sharing these pictures they captured.
