Only three weeks remain to sign up to help with the Weber County Library America Reads summer literacy program. Get involved this summer by helping children read.

In partnership with Weber County Library, Weber Human Services /Volunteer Services is looking for volunteers who are willing to serve one day a week for a minimum of 4 hours helping children maintain their literacy skills over the summer months. All volunteers must attend a training session and submit to a background screening prior to service.

All adults are welcome to volunteer. Volunteers 55 year of age or older can sign up to receive mileage reimbursement and even a small stipend through the RSVP or Foster Grandparent Program. Mark your calendars! This workshop is fantastic! It addresses many different aspects that can contribute to a senior having a fall. We bring in guest speakers, which are professionals from the community, to address these topics and answer questions that seniors have. Physical therapists come it to discuss strength and balance exercises, a vision expert discusses how important vision is to prevent falls, the fire chief does an incredible presentation about what time of day falls happen, where, and all the community details our emergency personnel handle, a pharmacist talks about medication side effects. Other topics include home safety, calcium, shoes, etc. The seniors that have been involved in the past have had a wonderful experience and often speak highly of this workshop.

It will start February 23rd and will run each Monday through April 6 at the Roy Senior Center. Be sure to call today and RSVP as space is limited!!
