WAITING CHILD WEDNESDAY - MELLY

Meet smiling Melly. She was born August of 2020. She had surgical treatment for correction of a meningocele. A ventriculoperitoneal shunt was also implanted to treat hydrocephalus. Unfortunately after surgery Melly’s lower limbs are paralyzed.

Melly moves independently in a wheelchair. She can pull herself up with her hands She enjoys contact with children and adults. She plays with toys, handles them, and can throw them. Melly pronounces various sounds and syllables although she points to make her needs known. She can maintain interest in an activity for 15-20 minutes.

Melly will need specialized care and treatment. We hope a loving family familiar with her needs will step forward to adopt her. For more information, please contact [email protected].

WAITING CHILD WEDNESDAY - ASHER

Please meet adorable Asher. He was born April of 2018 and is said to be a smiling and calm child. Asher lives in an orphanage in an Eastern European country. Asher has several diagnoses including congenital genetic metabolic disease which means he must remain on a strict Keto diet and drinks special milk. When medical personnel conducted an electroencephalography, epileptic activity was registered, which is why constant anticonvulsant therapy with Trileptal is being carried out. No epi-seizures have been observed after its initiation.

Asher stands up on his own with a stationary support and steps side to side, holding on to the stationary support. He moves by crawling. He can sit alone without support. He spends his waking hours with the other children in the group and he likes it very much. He does not isolate himself from other children. He maintains full eye contact.

For more information, please contact [email protected].

WAITING CHILD WEDNESDAY - SHARI

We are representing Shari again. She is an orphan in an Eastern European country.
Shari is said to be friendly and sociable. Shari was born March of 2013. Shari was diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2017 and has been on medication for seizures since that time.

Shari lives in a foster family and is very close to her foster mom. She says a lot of words and sentences, but they are in Turkish. She is extremely mobile and can run, climb on fitness equipment, go up and down stairs and can jump on one leg. She enjoys playing with dolls and pretending to cook. She likes nice clothes and likes to look good. She does not manifest any aggression and in fact is very loving and sweet. She is also very curious. A resource teacher works with Shari at school, and she also visits with a psychologist at the Community Support Center. Unfortunately she lives in a very small town with very few other resources. She really needs the love, attention and resources that only a family can give. For more information contact [email protected]. Reece’s Rainbow is offering a $2,000 grant towards her adoption.

WASATCH ADOPTIONS – Funding Options for Families

Adopting a child is a life-changing and beautiful experience, but it can also come with a significant financial cost. From agency fees to legal expenses, the process can feel daunting for many families. The good news is that there are a variety of options available to help make adoption more affordable.
1. Adoption Grants

Reece’s Rainbow - FSP (Family Support Program) and Grant Info through RR:
You are welcome to set up an FSP profile page with us for fundraising purposes once you have signed on with a US Hague accredited adoption agency and have contacted a home study agency. You are also welcome to apply for the child's Reece's Rainbow adoption grant at that time if the child is eligible for one. The FSP/Grant Application Forms will need to be submitted back to Reece's Rainbow fully completed, along with the $25 application fee. More information about our FSP program with additional information can be found here: http://reecesrainbow.org/fsp.

2. Adoption Tax Credit
Families are often unaware that The U.S. government offers a tax credit for adoption-related expenses, which can provide a significant financial break. If you adopt an eligible child, you can claim the Adoption Credit on your federal income taxes for up to $16,810 in qualified expenses as of 2024. To learn more go to https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/adoption-credit. Be sure to also check with a tax professional to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements.

3. Employer Adoption Benefits
Some employers offer adoption-related benefits, such as financial reimbursement or paid leave. Be sure to ask your HR department about available programs.

4. Alternative Funding Sources
While grants are valuable, many families turn to additional funding sources to cover the total costs of adoption. Crowdfunding platforms, such as GoFundMe or AdoptTogether, allow adoptive families to share their adoption stories and raise funds from friends, family, and even strangers. Fundraising events, such as bake sales, auctions, or charity runs, are also popular ways to generate support for adoption expenses. These alternative funding methods can complement traditional grants and provide the financial boost needed to complete the adoption journey.

For more information on funding options or to get support, contact Kathy at Wasatch Adoptions, [email protected]. We are here to help you every step of the way.
