April is Arthritis Awareness Month! More than half a million Utahns have arthritis. If you, or someone you know, have arthritis, you should know there are 5 ways you can better manage arthritis:
1. Learn self-management skills (there are workshops offered in our community!)
2. Be physically active. (there are types of activity that put no or low stress on your joints)
3. Manage your weight (healthy living workshops can help you learn strategies and set action plans that get results)
4. Protect your joints (there are workshops to help prevent falls, improve balance, and gain strength)
5. Talk to your healthcare provider (earlier treatment can lessen effects and delay progression)

The SMP is warning the public about scammers targeting assisted living facilities and nursing home residents and signing them up for hospice, even though their life expectancy exceeds six months.
This is dangerous because if you are enrolled in hospice, you 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞, like cancer treatments, surgeries, or even some medications.

Be sure to check your Medicare statements and see if you are being charged for hospice services. If you find you are and shouldn't be, please contact the at smpresource.org/reportfraud.
