9/11/01 - Patriot Day 25th Anniversary Commemoration.
Imagine the clear blue sky of that September morning, 25 years ago. Ordinary people were heading to work, boarding planes, and starting their day — unaware that history was about to change forever. In the span of a few hours, our nation was shaken to its core. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost. Families were forever changed. And yet, in the midst of tragedy, we witnessed extraordinary courage, unity, and resilience.
The first aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center in New York at 8:53 AM, EST.
On this 25th anniversary of September 11th, 2001, Please take a moment, wherever you are, to remember, along with your families and friends, your Offutt Exchange Team and your Offutt AFB Military Family, to pause, to remember the following:
The innocent men, women, and children whose lives were taken.
The first responders who ran toward danger when others ran away.
The service members who answered the call to defend our freedoms in the years that followed.
We remember the firefighters climbing stairwells in the Twin Towers, the passengers on Flight 93 who fought back, and the countless acts of kindness from strangers across the country. These moments remind us that even in our darkest hours, the American spirit shines brightest.
The Lessons We Carry Forward From that day, we learned that:
Unity is our greatest strength. In the days after 9/11, there were no divisions — only Americans standing together.
Service is a calling we all can answer. Whether in uniform, in our communities, or in our daily lives, we can all contribute to the greater good.
Resilience defines us. We rebuild, we heal, and we honor the fallen by living with purpose.
A Call to the Present and Future
As we mark this milestone anniversary, let us not only look back, but also look forward. The memory of 9/11 is not just a chapter in our history — it is a reminder of our responsibility to one another.
