The City of Oelwein is creating an Oelwein Pedestrian Access Route Transition Plan as required by the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT). Public feedback is required of the plan. If you have feedback on accessibility to Oelwein's public buildings, or city sidewalks, please provide your feedback by following the links. This plan is required as part of the state/federal funding received to construct the 10th Street SW bridge. The final plan will be adopted by the city council on September 28, 2026. Please complete the form by September 23, 2026.

The Fayette County EMS Association will attend the August 24 City Council work session at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. This meeting will provide information about the EMS levy which will appear on the November 3 ballot. Community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about the levy and become informed before Election Day.

Household Hazardous Waste Day Friday October 2, 2026

The Fayette County Solid Waste Management Commission will hold a household hazardous waste event from 12:00 - 5:00 PM on October 2, 2026 at the Fayette County Transfer Station. This is for Fayette County residents only. (No farm, business or non­profit waste will be accepted.)

This event is for collecting household hazardous waste (HHW) free of charge to prevent contamination of water sources and child poisoning. HHW includes household cleaners, solvents, paints oil (no latex), paint removers, lacquers, thinners, herbicides, pesticides, gasoline and diesel additives. All materials collected will be recycled, used for energy, and/or disposed of properly.
