Happy May Day! Did you know that May is "Get Caught Reading" Month? It seems to us like we're the perfect place to help you with that. Come on in and grab a book, and then while you're here, pick up a take-and-make kit to take with you. This month we're featuring mini book necklaces. The Oelwein Public Library is excited to announce we now participate in the Iowa Adventure Pass program. The Iowa Adventure Pass is an online program that allows library patrons
to use their library cards to visit area attractions and museums for free or at a discount. Library cardholders must be an Oelwein resident or live in rural Fayette County to be eligible. Sponsored by the Friends of the Oelwein Public Library. Find more information on our website at www.oelwein.lib.ia.us.

If you've been in the library in the last week or so, you may have noticed a grey box sitting behind the desk. (If you haven't been in the library in the last week or so, come on in, we won't bite.) Well here's what we've been up to: 3D printing is now available at the library!

Are you looking for a birthday gift, or a gift for Mother's Day, or something "just because"? Or maybe you want something for yourself, just because. There's a whole world of possibilities, and you can have them printed right here at your library.

To learn more, and to view our 3D printer policy, visit our website: https://www.oelwein.lib.ia.us/services/printing-services

Today, April 20, is Right to Read Day. This is a day to highlight the book challenges and pro-censorship bills happening around the country, and also to celebrate the victories that have been won in the struggle to protect your right to read.

Here are some ways that you can participate in Right to Read Day:
1. do research on book bans and pro-censorship bills at both the State and Federal levels, and spread the word;
2. register to vote to protect the freedom to read, or make sure that you are registered and your information is correct;
3. donate to an organization that fights book bans;
4. contact your legislators (both Federal and State) and tell them you support libraries and the freedom to read;
5. and of course, read! Read in public, or read in private. The easiest way to support your library and its protection of the freedom to read is to use it. Come in and check out a book or two.

Happy reading!
