No one has claimed this young dog, so she is now up for adoption. Unfortunately, Brandy did not have a good start in life which makes it more difficult to find her a forever home. Due to her previous abuse, she is extremely shy and scared and needs a calm environment with a patient person to encourage her to become the happy dog she deserves to be. Also, she does seems to enjoy having the company of another dog. Brandy is about 1-2 years old, mixed breed. There is no adoption fee, but she must be spayed per state statute and receive a rabies vaccination within 30 days of adoption. The Odessa Police Department is proud to congratulate Lt. Phillip Salmon on being selected as the 2026 recipient of the Carolyn Green Award from Child Safe of Central Missouri!

This award recognizes Lt. Salmon's long-term commitment to helping children, going above and beyond the expectations of his job, and bringing others together to make a difference in the lives of children. Lt. Salmon has spent years working to protect children, supporting Child Safe of Central Missouri and other Odessa community partners, helping children through programs like Shop with a Cop, raising money for children in need, and finding additional resources to support them.

We are proud to have Lt. Salmon representing the Odessa Police Department and the Odessa community. This is a well-deserved honor. Congratulations on a job well done!

Just a reminder that we are holding two upcoming events to learn about the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program. The first one is on Tuesday, September 1 at 6:00 pm, and the second is on Thursday, September 10 at 6:00 pm. Both will be held at the Odessa Community Building.

In the event of a major emergency or disaster within Odessa, the reality may be that public safety resources could be overwhelmed. That’s where a CERT program can be a tremendous benefit. It educates volunteers about disaster preparedness so they can perform a large number of basic tasks which frees up professional first responders for more complex and/or technical operations.

Odessa students are heading back to school tomorrow. Be sure to watch for school crossing guards and obey their signals. Always stop for school buses that are loading and unloading children. Also, let's all get back in the habit of slowing down in school zones. It may seem like a crawl when driving just 15 miles per hour in a school zone, but it only takes a second for a child to run out in front of a vehicle. If you are speeding, you might not have enough time to react. Please buckle up, put your phone down, and drive safely.
