Today, the Ector County Hospital District Police Department pauses to honor the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

We are incredibly proud to have participated in the moving tribute ceremony hosted by the Medical Center Hospital Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our healthcare partners and local community, we remember the 2,977 lives lost, the remarkable bravery of the first responders, and the enduring spirit of American unity.

Twenty-five years later, our mission remains strong: to serve, protect, and Never Forget. Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring these fallen heroes.

Join us in celebrating Jennifer Terrazas on her well-deserved promotion to the rank of Corporal! Corporal Terrazas has consistently demonstrated excellent leadership, dedication, and a commitment to protecting the staff, patients, and visitors of Medical Center Hospital. We look forward to seeing her thrive in this new leadership role.

We also want to recognize Corporal Melinda Gonzales and Security Guard Winter Hamilton, who were both awarded the prestigious Life Saving Award. Their swift, decisive actions and specialized crisis training directly saved a life during a critical incident. Their heroism perfectly embodies our department's mission to protect and serve Ector County with excellence.

Our Deepest Condolences to Odessa Fire & Rescue

The Ector County Hospital District Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and brothers and sisters of Firefighter Eric Handlin of Odessa Fire & Rescue following his passing.

Our hearts are with Firefighter Handlin’s loved ones and with the entire Odessa Fire & Rescue family during this difficult time. The loss of a first responder is felt deeply throughout the public safety community, and we stand beside our brothers and sisters at Odessa Fire & Rescue as you mourn the loss of one of your own.

May you find strength in the memories you shared, comfort in the support of your fellow first responders, and peace in the days ahead.

Rest easy, Firefighter Handlin. Your service, sacrifice, and dedication will not be forgotten.

END OF WATCH: June 28, 2026

The ECHD Police Department extends its deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Texas, following the tragic loss of Deputy Erika Serrato.

Deputy Serrato, just 24 years old, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty early Sunday morning. While directing traffic and securing the scene of a crash on Interstate 45 North.

Deputy Serrato’s family, friends, loved ones, and the entire MCSO agency is in our thoughts and prayers during this time of profound grief. We also pray for a full and speedy recovery for the second deputy who was injured at the scene.

Your legacy will never be forgotten. Rest easy, sister.

Today, we join our brothers and sisters in law enforcement across Texas in mourning the loss of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on June 17, 2026.

His sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face each day as they answer the call to serve their communities.

We extend our deepest condolences to Trooper Romero’s family, friends, and the entire Texas Department of Public Safety family. May they find strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Trooper Romero. Your watch has ended, but your service, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten.

It is with heavy hearts that we send our deepest condolences to Odessa Fire and Rescue and the family of Firefighter Lt. Isai Huerta.

Lt. Huerta made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our community. The Ector County Hospital District PD is grateful for Lt. Huerta's service and our prayers are with his family and his brothers and sisters at OFR.
