Oden Safety Committee

End of the year OSC update! Most know that much work was done in 2025 to gain funding to study and create detailed plans to improve safety traffic and pedestrian safety in our community. Unfortunately, in September we learned that due to budget cuts from the federal government our 2025 grant application was not approved. Our stakeholder's assessed options at that time, and MDOT recommended that the Oden Safety Committee apply to the 2026 Michigan Rural Readiness Grant Program (MRRGP). At this time Networks Northwest is helping OSC prepare our application for a 2026 MMRGP grant which is due in late May 2026. We continue to work for the safety of our community, and will not be deterred by the many challenges we know we will encounter. Please continue to monitor this site for news as the situation develops into 2026.

This sign is called a permanent radar speed sign. They can be hard wired or solar powered. Their typical features include flashing LED displaying "your speed" when vehicles are detected, "Slow Down" is an optional display when speed limit is exceeded, and data logging to monitor traffic volume and speeds. Yes please!

Especially in the summer, Oden youth and children appreciate swimming at the public park on Crooked Lake. But its not easy, and not safe getting across 31.
