Weather Alert:

Enhanced Severe Storm Risk & Dangerous Heat for Oconto County. A risk of severe thunderstorms and dangerous heat levels are heading for Oconto County.. According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a volatile combination of high humidity and surging temperatures will collide to create a highly unstable atmosphere.

Unseasonably hot temperatures possibly climbing into the lower 90s will be paired with oppressive moisture levels and will make the air feel significantly hotter. Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade, and please check on elderly neighbors.

Enhanced Severe Storm Threat (As of now looks to be arriving Wednesday afternoon & night) could bring Intense thunderstorms packing severe elements which look to be tracking across Northeast Wisconsin.

Rain chances tomorrow as well as Wednesday, with storms that are expected to rapidly fire up during the hottest part of Wednesday afternoon and persist into Wednesday night.

Flooding possiblities resulting from unusually high moisture levels mean intense downpours capable of creating flash flooding or standing water in low-lying areas.

A few Items for your checklist-

Secure patio furniture, umbrellas, and loose objects before Wednesday morning.

Charge Electronics: Ensure cell phones and backup battery banks are fully charged in case of power outages from high winds.

Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms remain possible on Thursday and Friday. Keep an eye on local radar updates, and we will keep you posted as more updates become available.

Good afternoon, A couple of items warrant attention over the next couple of days. We are situated in a high-risk area for wildland fires due to the dry conditions resulting from the recent weather. Additionally, if you plan on engaging in water activities over the next couple of days, please be aware of the high wind advisory in effect for tomorrow afternoon through Friday. Please exercise caution and stay safe my friends!

There is potential for some severe weather this afternoon and this evening. Please remain dilligent and follow local weather reports for further information.

• Severe Risk Timing: Isolated strong or severe storms this afternoon, and then again later this evening and overnight.

• Target Area: The highest potential for severe storms tonight will be across central, north-central and far NE WI.

• Primary Hazard: Damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail.

On Wednesday evening, I had the privilege of conducting Oconto County's first Rescue Task force training for 2026. We established this team in 2023 after some exercises with our local school districts. The team is made up of some of the most dedicated and selfless individual volunteers around. All members are involved in public safety response, and are sponsored by their local fire/EMS organization in joint training efforts with Oconto County's Law Enforcement agencies. We train together as a Task Force. Fire, EMS, and Law Enforcement, together, at least twice a year since inception, in order to make certain we are ready to respond as a cohesive unit should the need arise. Although in most instances all 3 legs of the "public safety stool" function independently in emergency response, inevitably large scale incidents do occur. These events are the low frequency and very high stress, unique events that demand multi-agency response. Thankfully, they don't happen often, but it is our intention to be ready when they do. I would like to thank the following agencies for their participation in the exercise and training session Wednesday evening at the Oconto County Courthouse.

With several of our agencies responding to boating/water related incidents the last few days, please be mindful if your heading out on the water today.

Emergency Preparedness-
Communication: Use a VHF radio to check for Coast Guard updates and report your position if necessary.Monitor Weather: Continuously monitor apps or radio for changing conditions.

Fuel Management: Keep a full tank and ensure you have enough fuel to withstand the extra power needed to fight wind and waves.

Visibility: In case of heavy rain or spray reducing visibility, slow down and use your electronics to spot hazards
