🚒 TWO INCIDENTS. ONE TEAM. IRWIN COUNTY FIRE RESCUE! 🚒

Today, Irwin County Fire Rescue responded to two serious incidents happening simultaneously. One involved a fully involved cargo trailer carrying a couple’s entire belongings on Highway 107 (Ten Mile Road). The other involved a fully involved pickup truck pulling an empty peanut trailer in a peanut field fire.

With both incidents happening at the same time, our paid staff and volunteer firefighters worked together to handle both situations.

This is what teamwork, dedication, and service to our community look like! 💪🔥

We absolutely could not do what we do without our amazing volunteer firefighters. These men and women answer the call, show up when needed, and stand ready to handle whatever situation comes their way. They sacrifice their time, leave their families, and step up when their community needs them most.

Our volunteers are an essential part of Irwin County Fire Rescue, and we are incredibly thankful for every single one of them. ❤️

When emergencies happen, our community can count on a team that works together, supports one another, and gets the job done.

If the public could see what actually goes on inside a firehouse, they’d probably question who they have protecting their community. 😂

You’ve got grown men singing at the top of their lungs, dancing like nobody’s watching, and acting like unsupervised kindergarteners. And grown women who can go from intimidating professionals to complete goofballs in a matter of seconds.

Conversations that make absolutely no sense, spontaneous dance performances, and uncontrollable laughter over things that aren’t even remotely funny.

And here’s the best part…

You can walk into nearly ANY firehouse, ANYWHERE in this country, and witness the exact same nonsense.

Different departments. Different uniforms. Different accents. Same ridiculous behavior.

Some of the toughest, bravest, most intimidating-looking firefighters you’ll ever meet are also some of the biggest idiots you’ll ever encounter.

And I mean that with the utmost respect. 😂

One minute, they’re performing absolutely ridiculous dance moves in the kitchen. Five minutes later, they’re crawling down a smoke-filled hallway looking for someone they’ve never met.

That’s the part of the fire service most people never get to see.

Behind the serious faces, the dangerous job, and the public’s perception of fearless professionals is a collection of overgrown children who somehow know exactly when it’s time to stop screwing around and get to work.

And perhaps that’s what makes this profession so unique.

We take the job seriously. Ourselves? Not so much. 🚒😂

HAPPY birthday to our chief, Joe Thompson!!!
This guy is full of experience that makes him right for our dept. His background is military, GA Forestry, and years of experience in both firefighting and being a paramedic. He's also the right balance of fun and serious. It takes special people to do this job and he handles us well. He don't lead from the front, he is with us in the trenches. We're so blessed and super thankful that he's ours.

In a city, a fire station may serve only a few square miles. A rural volunteer fire department may protect dozens - or even hundreds - of square miles.

That can mean long travel distances, remote properties, narrow roads, difficult addresses and volunteers responding from home or work before the fire truck ever leaves the station.

Distance matters during an emergency. That is why station placement, dependable apparatus, good communications and strong mutual-aid relationships are so important in rural communities.
