🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help reduce wildfire risk across Georgia.

Fighting fire. Protecting forests. Serving Georgia.

🚨 UPDATE: ALL CLEAR – Irwin County High School 🚨

Irwin County EMA, in coordination with local law enforcement and school officials, has issued an ALL CLEAR following this morning’s bomb threat at Irwin County High School.

After a thorough sweep of the campus, including the assistance of state bomb detection K9 units, no credible threats were located. Students and faculty are safe, and normal school operations are resuming.

Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the origin of this threat. At this time, we ask for patience as that investigation continues.

We appreciate the quick and coordinated response from school staff, first responders, and our partner agencies to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

As always, if you see something, say something.

🚨 Irwin County EMA – Public Safety Update 🚨

Earlier this morning, Irwin County Emergency Management, along with local public safety partners, responded to a reported bomb threat at Irwin County High School.

Out of an abundance of caution, school faculty and students were safely evacuated and accounted for within approximately 20 minutes of the initial report. We want to commend the school staff and responding agencies for their quick actions, coordination, and professionalism in ensuring the safety of everyone on campus.

Initial safety sweeps of the facility have been completed, and no immediate threats were identified. At this time, we are awaiting the arrival of a State Bomb K9 unit to conduct a final, thorough sweep of the campus.

Once the K9 sweep is complete and the facility is confirmed safe, students and staff will be allowed to return and resume their normal schedule.

Irwin County EMA will continue to work closely with law enforcement and school officials to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of students, parents, and the community during this response. As always, safety remains our top priority.

🚫🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT – IRWIN COUNTY 🔥🚫

Irwin County is currently under a 100% burn ban. That means NO outdoor burning of any kind—no yard debris, no trash piles, no controlled burns.

Conditions are extremely dry, and it does not take much for a small fire to turn into a fast-moving, dangerous situation. Our firefighters have already been working hard responding to multiple fires, and we need the public’s help to prevent the next one.

⚠️ Violating the burn ban can result in serious consequences, including:• Citations and fines• Liability for damages caused by the fire• Possible criminal charges depending on the situation

If you see smoke or an active fire, report it immediately to 911.

Let’s do our part to protect our community, our land, and the men and women responding to these emergencies.

No burn means NO burn. 🔥🚫

Over the past few weeks, Irwin County Fire Rescue has answered call after call—standing on the front lines to protect our community without hesitation.

Today alone, crews responded to four separate fires, each with the potential to turn into something catastrophic. Thanks to their quick response, training, and professionalism, every one of those incidents was contained before it could get out of hand.

That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of dedicated men and women who are always ready when the call comes in.

The next time you see a firefighter, take a second to thank them. It goes a long way—and it’s well deserved.

🚨 Wildfire Activity in Surrounding Counties 🚨

Irwin County EMA is closely monitoring multiple wildfire incidents currently impacting surrounding counties across South Georgia. Due to ongoing dry conditions, wind, and fuel availability, these fires have the potential to spread rapidly and create hazardous conditions, including reduced visibility from smoke and potential threats to structures and roadways.

At this time, there are no active wildfires reported within Irwin County, but conditions remain favorable for fire growth. We are maintaining communication with Georgia Forestry Commission and neighboring agencies and are prepared to respond if conditions change.

🔥 What You Need to Know:

Avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve
Use extreme caution with anything that could spark a fire (equipment, debris burning, ci******es, etc.)
Be aware of smoke in the area, especially while driving
Report any signs of fire immediately to 911

This is a good reminder—wildfires don’t need much to get started, but they can take a lot to stop.

Irwin EMA will continue to provide updates as needed. Stay alert, stay prepared, and as always—See Something, Say Something.
