🚨 FLOODING & ROAD CLOSURE ADVISORY 🚨

The Ocean View Police Department is urging residents and motorists to use extreme caution due to significant flooding and road closures in the area.

🌊 Current conditions:

Rt. 26 (Atlantic Ave.) has significant standing water just east of the Assawoman Canal in Bethany Beach.

Rt. 1 is CLOSED north of Fred Hudson Road.

Fred Hudson Road is experiencing heavy water.

🚗 Motorists should NOT drive through high water. Even if the roadway appears passable, flood water can conceal hazards, damage roadways, and cause vehicles to lose control.

⚡ Electric vehicle warning: Flood water can pose additional hazards to electric vehicles. Salt water is especially concerning because it is electrically conductive and can increase the risk of electrical hazards and vehicle damage. Do not attempt to drive an EV through flood water.

Please avoid flooded roadways, follow all barricades and closure signs, and allow emergency crews and road personnel room to work.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Your safety is more important than getting through a flooded roadway.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET

On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.

Today, the Ocean View Police Department pauses to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless families whose lives were forever altered.

We also honor those who later passed away from illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero—and the members of our Armed Forces who answered the call in the years that followed.

May we never forget their sacrifice, their courage, and the unity that brought our nation together.

🚌 BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER 🎒

Today is the first full day back to school! Please slow down, remain alert, and use extra caution around school bus stops and children waiting along our roadways.

Motorists should also expect increased traffic and congestion near Lord Baltimore Elementary School, particularly during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

Please allow extra travel time, obey crossing guards and school-zone speed limits, and remember to stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights.

Let’s work together to keep our students safe and start the school year on a positive note!

🌀 September Is Hurricane Preparedness Month 🌀

September is traditionally the most active period of the Atlantic hurricane season. While hurricanes cannot be prevented, preparation can reduce property damage, prevent injuries, and save lives.

The Ocean View Police Department encourages everyone to:

✅ Review your family’s emergency and evacuation plans
✅ Assemble an emergency kit with food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and first-aid supplies
✅ Keep vehicles fueled and mobile devices charged
✅ Secure outdoor furniture and other loose objects
✅ Know your evacuation route and never drive through flooded roadways
✅ Make arrangements for children, older family members, neighbors, and pets
✅ Monitor trusted weather and emergency information sources

Do not wait until a storm is approaching. Prepare now, stay informed, and help keep your family and our community safe.
