Maryland’s work to combat impaired driving goes well beyond the roadside.

Recently, Maryland State Police Forensic Scientist III Lauren Wolfe presented a 10-year analysis of DUI and drug-impaired driving trends in Maryland at the joint annual meeting of the Society of Forensic Toxicology and International Association of Forensic Toxicologists in Chicago.

Supported in part through grant funding from the Maryland Highway Safety Office, Lauren’s presentation sparked conversations with forensic scientists from across the country — and even as far away as South Korea.

Partnerships like this help strengthen the science, knowledge and collaboration behind Maryland’s efforts to prevent impaired driving and save lives on our roads.

We’re proud to support the important work of the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.

The week may be wrapping up. The car seats, snack crumbs and back-seat negotiations? Those aren’t going anywhere.

Today is National Seat Check Saturday, and it's the perfect time to make sure your child is riding as safely as possible. Check their seat, check the fit or visit a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician for some expert help.

And while Child Passenger Safety Week ends today, child passenger safety doesn’t.

Kids grow. Car seats change. Boosters get outgrown. Eventually, they start asking to sit up front. Keeping up with each new stage is part of keeping them safe.

And before you know it, that little passenger will be sitting behind the wheel. 😳

When that day comes, we’ll be here to help you navigate that stage, too.

Until then, keep asking questions. Keep checking. Keep setting the example.

Right seat. Right fit. Right place. Every trip. Every time. ❤️

The safety habits children learn today can become the habits they carry with them for life. Buckle up. Put the phone away. Follow the speed limit. Make safe choices every time you get behind the wheel.

During Child Passenger Safety Week, remember: the example you set matters.

Be the kind of driver you want them to become.

Car seats can be complicated. Getting them right doesn’t have to be something you figure out on your own.

A properly installed car seat can make all the difference in a crash. During Child Passenger Safety Week, take a few minutes to check your child’s seat — or have it checked by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

They can help make sure your seat is installed correctly, fits your child properly and answer your questions along the way.

They may be almost as tall as you are, but their bodies still have growing to do.

Children’s bones and skeletal systems are still developing, which can make them more vulnerable to injury from a deploying frontal airbag in a crash — even when they look big enough to ride up front.

That’s why children under 13 should ride properly buckled in the back seat.

This , remember: Growing taller doesn’t mean they’re done growing.

Do you know when your child is ready to move from a car seat to a booster — or from a booster to a seat belt?

Maryland law sets minimum requirements for keeping children safe in the car, but choosing the right seat also depends on your child’s age, height, weight and development.

During Child Passenger Safety Week, take a minute to make sure you know the law — and that your child is riding in the right seat, every trip.

A quick stop. A change in routine. A moment of distraction. It can happen faster than you think.

During Child Passenger Safety Week, remember that keeping kids safe in and around vehicles goes beyond the car seat.

🚗 Look before you lock — every trip, every time.
👶 Never leave a child alone in a vehicle, even for a minute.
🔑 Keep vehicles locked when parked and keys out of reach so children can’t get inside on their own.

Build the habit: Park. Look. Lock.

Kids come with a lot of things — snacks, toys, opinions, mystery crumbs in the back seat.

Unfortunately, they don’t come with an instruction manual.

That’s where we can help.

It’s Child Passenger Safety Week, and all week long we’ll be sharing quick videos to help parents and caregivers navigate some of the questions that come with keeping kids safe in and around the car — from car seats and seat checks to the front-seat debate and more.

Because raising kids is complicated. Keeping them safe on the road doesn’t have to be. ❤️

Follow along all week!
