🌊 MEET THE LIFEGUARD: SRT Robbie Dougherty
SRT Robbie Dougherty is spending his first summer with the Ocean City Beach Patrol and proudly serves with Crew 13 in Ocean City. Robbie was recruited by a fellow veteran SRT Ben Dietz which is how we keep our tradition growing.
When he's not guarding the beach, Robbie enjoys snowboarding and competing in triathlons. During the off-season, he attends Salisbury University, where he is majoring in Nursing, and works as a snowboard instructor.
Favorite OCBP Memory:
"So far, my first rescue on 27th Street when a father and his son and daughter were caught in a rip current. The father and son made it in with my direction, but I had to go farther out to bring the daughter in. When we got back to shore, the crowd cheered."
Top Safety Tip:
"Swim near a lifeguard!"

The annual 1-Mile Ocean Swim is underway, honoring former Captain Craig and his incredible 52 years of dedicated service.

The rain arrived right at the start, but it couldn’t hold the competitors back. By the time the first swimmer crossed the finish line, the skies had cleared.

Wishing the best of luck to all of today’s swimmers. Swim strong and enjoy the day!

One last veteran recertification run in the books.

Our veteran guards crushed their 400-meter requalification sprint this morning. Next up: the swim test, followed by a full day of recertification.

These standards exist for a reason, to ensure we’re ready when it matters most.

Think you have what it takes to earn your place on an elite ocean rescue team?

🌊 Tryouts for the Summer 2027 season begin this August.
