Tonight's City Council meeting began with recognizing the people, organizations and City staff who make a difference in our community.

👏Mayor Ben Marciano presented the Mayor's Citizen Recognition Award to Kimberly Wilkerson, Founder and Executive Director of War Cry 4 PEACE, where she continues to restore hope and peace for those affected by gun violence.

🎨 Mayor Marciano presented a proclamation recognizing National Arts and Humanities Month Jaye Baillie, Executive Director for the Marion Cultural Alliance at Brick City Center for the Arts.

⭐Mayor Marciano a proclamation to Community Foundation Ocala Marion County CEO, Lauren Deiorio for Give4Marion.

⭐A proclamation celebration Hispanic Heritage Mount was given by Mayor Marciano to Ocala Metro Chamber and Economic Partnership

The Transitions Life Center (TLC) Coffee Cart made a welcomed return to City Hall this morning. Employees stopped by to enjoy fresh coffee and a selection of pastries, while supporting a meaningful cause.

TLC is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe, caring and enriching community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Guests were able to learn more about TLC's mission over a cup of coffee and a treat.

It was a great morning of connection, good coffee and community support.

Today, the City of Ocala joined our community in remembering the lives lost, honoring the heroes and recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

This morning, members of the Ocala City Council, the Mayor, City Manager, Ocala Police Department and Ocala Fire Rescue attended the Sept. 11 memorial ceremony at the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park. Together, we reflected on the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day and honored the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Following the memorial, City representatives joined Feed the Fearless at The Mojo Grill & Catering, an annual community effort that honors local first responders by preparing and delivering meals to those serving our community. We are grateful to everyone who volunteered their time today to deliver meals and show their appreciation to the men and women who work each day to keep Ocala safe.

Our first responders also participated in a color guard ceremony at MISSION BBQ, continuing a day centered on remembrance, service and gratitude.

Twenty-five years later, the importance of Sept. 11 remains with us. We remember those whose lives were taken, the families forever changed and the extraordinary courage demonstrated by first responders and ordinary Americans in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We also recognize the first responders who continue that legacy of service today. To the men and women of Ocala Police Department, Ocala Fire Rescue and all those who dedicate their lives to protecting others: Thank you for your courage, sacrifice and commitment to our community.

We will remember. We will honor. We will never forget.
