🪝 Phishing scams can happen in any season—including where scammers falsely claim you are facing charges or owe money.

Scammers often pretend to be trusted businesses or organizations, but the will never call, email, or message you to request money, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or any form of payment.

If you receive a suspicious message, do not respond—report it to law enforcement immediately. Always verify information through reputable sources and official websites before taking any action.

✅ Use official websites: Only submit payments or personal information through verified, secure websites. Scammers often create fake pages that look legitimate, so double‑check the URL and navigate directly rather than clicking links.

✅ No calls or emails about criminal charges: Ocala PD will never call or email to tell you that you’re facing charges or must pay to avoid arrest.

✅ Online‑shopping scams: Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true, fake order‑confirmation emails, or messages claiming there’s a problem with your delivery. Always shop through trusted retailers and avoid clicking links in unsolicited messages.

The Ocala Police Department arrested Jesse Swengel, 46, in connection with two shooting incidents, a battery, and criminal mischief that occurred on June 12.

Around 4:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a gunshot fired from a moving vehicle near NE 8th Ave. and NE 10th St. Camera footage from the area showed the driver of a green pickup truck firing a shot into the air before driving away.

Shortly afterward, officers received another call reporting additional gunshots near NE 12th St. and NE 10th Ave. Officers located several spent casings in the roadway and discovered a recent bullet strike on a nearby fence.

During the investigation, a witness reported the same truck driving recklessly in the 3000 block of NE 3rd St. Officers located the vehicle at a nearby residence and detained the driver. Evidence related to a battery incident was also found at the residence.

A search of the vehicle revealed a handgun that appeared to have been recently fired.

Detective Zaino charged Swengel with:
• Two counts of firing a weapon from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person
• One count of battery
• One count of criminal mischief related to property damage

We commend the responding officers for their quick work and extend gratitude to the community members whose timely reports played a vital role in bringing this case to a safe resolution.

📱👦👧 June is Internet Safety Month, which makes it the perfect time to remind children about the importance of staying safe online. Be aware of who your children are interacting with online and what content they are viewing on social media apps.

There are many dangerous predators and inappropriate content out there, and it is important to ensure children know how to stay safe while also having fun. By staying involved, setting clear expectations, and teaching kids how to recognize unsafe situations, we can help them enjoy social media while staying protected.

Dale Adams, who retired from the Ocala Police Department in 2004 after 30 years of dedicated service, passed away at the age of 73 on June 10, 2026. Born on December 6, 1952, in Logan, West Virginia, Dale is survived by his wife of 28 years, Deborah Adams, along with his children, step-children, and grandchildren.

Dale began his law enforcement career with the Ocala Police Department in 1968 as a jailer and dispatcher. He became a sworn officer trainee in 1970 and achieved full-time officer status in 1974. Over the years, he served in patrol, criminal investigations, and as a respected trainer within the department, ultimately rising to the rank of Major. After retiring, he continued to contribute by helping develop the department's pension program, serving as the Plan Administrator, remaining a reserve officer, and training new recruits.

Throughout his life, Dale was deeply respected by his family, friends, colleagues, and the community he served. His legacy of professionalism, leadership, and service endures in the many lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed.

During a recent traffic operation between the Ocala Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Office, our agencies worked together to combat aggressive driving and impaired driving throughout Ocala.

The joint effort, conducted on May 29, resulted in:
- 103 traffic stops
- 46 citations
- 61 warnings
- 11 arrests, including nine for DWLSR and other criminal charges; two DUIs.

We remain committed to strengthening our partnership with local law enforcement agencies to keep Ocala/Marion County roadways safe. Please remember to always drive safely and responsibly.
