⚠️Notice from the City of Oberlin Regarding This Morning's Gas Leak⚠️

At approximately 8:30 AM on the morning of Friday, June 5, 2026, a contractor hired by the City of Oberlin for a traffic signal improvement project hit and damaged a main gas line at the corner of East Lorain Street and North Pleasant Street. This caused a gas leak in that area. City of Oberlin emergency services and Columbia Gas were notified of the situation and affected residents in the area were evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

Oberlin Police and Fire personnel were on scene to block off the area while Columbia Gas crews addressed the gas leak. By approximately 10:00 AM, the gas line had been capped and residents were permitted to return to their homes. Columbia Gas is continuing to work in the area of East Lorain Street and North Pleasant Street. Residents are encouraged to use alternate traffic routes. Once Columbia Gas clears the area, the traffic signal improvement project will continue as planned.

For more information, please contact City of Oberlin Fire Department at (440) 774-3211.
