Just returned from the 14th annual The Joe Garassino Foundation Golf Tournament where Senator Eric Berthel and I served as co-emcees

The foundation has awarded over $400,000 since its inception. Cancer touches the lives of everyone and the foundation works to offer monetary support for those impacted by this awful disease.

Special thanks to the Garassino family, Joe’s friends and family that continue to honor him as well as the sponsors that make this annual event a huge success

Kimmi and I had a great time judging the Visual Arts and Media fair at Rotella Magnet School in Waterbury. The students and teachers put a tremendous amount of work into this annual event. I even had a chance to chat with a few students about their presentations and learned so much about the space program, history and cultures!

I am excited to announce a major source of funding to off-set Water and Sewer infrastructure costs to local ratepayers. This will be the first in a series of requests and revenue streams to ease the burden on Water-Oak ratepayers.

As your representative, taxpayers/ratepayers have always been at the top of my priority list.

Thank you to the Governor, Speaker, Minority Leader and members of the bond commission, of which I am a member of, that made this a possibility.

Special thanks to Gerry Lukowski, Watertown DPW director, for his help. Together, we will make our rates more affordable moving forward.

More to come….

Michele McHugh-

Our town has lost a wonderful person. Michele was a business owner, loving wife, devoted mother/grandmother (with another on the way!) and public servant. She was a close friend and I cannot begin to thank both Jack and Michele for all they have done for me over my political career. This one really hurts.

Michele was never shy to lend a helping hand. As an entrepreneur, she started, owned and operated Hawk Ridge Winery. Today, it is the top destination winery in the State. As a wife, she devoted herself to her loving husband, Dr. Jack Mchugh. I send my deepest condolences to him. As a mom to two beautiful children and grandmother, she exemplified what it was to be a role model. She was so proud of her children .

About a year ago, I picked up the phone and called Michele and asked her to get involved. I told her she would make an excellent council woman and boy was I right. In her short time serving our town, she quickly became a leader and great communicator to the public. I’ll never regret asking her to run.

This past week, Michele and I spoke about the challenges our town faced. We attended a memorial service for the late John Gavallas. At that service, she told me she could only hope to accomplish half of what John did. Little did I know, that would be the final time I would see her.

Our hearts are broken for Michele and her family. As I vowed to Jack- may her memory be eternal and rest assured we will NEVER forget her. God Bless you my friend. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord.

On this Memorial Day we remember those that gave all for the freedoms we enjoy today. It truly takes a special person to serve in the military- a person that will answer the call to leave one’s civilian life and defend our values both here and abroad against the harshest of enemies. God Bless those that have gone before us and those that continue to serve. A grateful nation thanks you today and every day!
