One individual was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.

DPW LABORER

The Borough of Oakland is accepting applications along with resumes for Laborer positions. Duties include road and roadside maintenance, landscaping, snow removal, etc. Starting pay in 2026 is $50,653 with opportunities for overtime, a strong benefits package and room for advancement. Applicants will be required to obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days of employment. As New Jersey welcomes visitors from around the world for FIFA World Cup events, remember to stay safe when using rideshare services.

Sami’s Law was enacted in memory of Samantha “Sami” Josephson, a New Jersey resident who was tragically murdered after mistakenly entering a vehicle she believed was her rideshare.

Before getting into any rideshare vehicle:

- Check the license plate number in the app
- Verify the driver’s name and photo
- Confirm your destination with the driver
- Look for the required rideshare identification displayed on the vehicle

Never assume a vehicle is your ride simply because it stops near you. A few seconds spent verifying your ride can help keep you safe.

As New Jersey prepares for an influx of global visitors for the FIFA World Cup, property owners are reminded that Short Term Rentals for a period of 30 days or less are prohibited in the Borough of Oakland.

The first World Cup game at MetLife Stadium is scheduled for June 13. With people coming from around the globe to attend games and watch parties for the World Cup, the Borough is mindful of the safety and security of our residents, as well as everyone’s right to quiet enjoyment of their own property. Thus, we wish to remind everyone that short-term rentals of 30 days or less, as well as the advertising of such rentals, are not permitted within the Borough and violators face fines of up to $1,250 per day.
