Congratulations to Chelsie Glotfelty, our Transitional Housing Coordinator, and member of Leadership Garrett County Class of 2026!

Chelsie brings positivity, genuine empathy and compassion, thoughtful insight, and wisdom into every conversation she is a part of. We are so proud of her!

Congratulations to the Leadership Garrett County Class of 2026! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘

Over the past five months, this dedicated group of emerging leaders explored regional issues, strengthened their leadership skills, and built connections across our community.

As their capstone project, the cohort tackled a challenge many organizations face: connecting willing volunteers with meaningful opportunities to serve. Through research and community engagement, they developed tools and strategies to help increase awareness of volunteer opportunities throughout Garrett County.

We are proud to celebrate the graduates of our 10th Leadership Garrett County class and look forward to seeing the positive impact they continue to make in our community.

We are so grateful to the Community Trust Foundation for supporting our Building Resiliency Through Positive Childhood Experiences Project. Many thanks also to the Naylor Family Trust Fund and the K&M Leonard Mindful Leadership Fund.

We had a wonderful time hearing about all the amazing work being done in our communities!

"Every meaningful change begins with someone asking, 'What if?'"

Yesterday, we celebrated the organizations receiving grants through the Community Trust Foundation's 2026 Community Grant Program.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, we're reminded that every fund, every nonprofit, and every community project started with a vision of what could be possible. Through the generosity of donors and the dedication of nonprofit leaders, those ideas become action, and those actions strengthen our communities.

This year, $311,000 in grant funding will be invested in projects across our region, supporting organizations that improve lives, create opportunity, preserve what matters, and help our communities thrive.

The best part? Every one of us can play a role. Whether it's making a gift, volunteering your time, sharing your expertise, or championing a cause you care about, community impact begins when people choose to get involved.

Together, we are demonstrating The Power of Community.

Therapeutic Thursday message from Priscilla, our Wellness Coordinator. Priscilla practices what she preaches!

Anxiety is our nervous system's way of trying to protect us. It is not our enemy, however, those of us who have experienced trauma often have a very hypervigilant nervous system. Our stress responses have difficulty deactivating. We may have difficulty feeling safe, even when we are safe, because we have not experienced safety in the past. This creates a cycle of chronic, toxic stress.

This cycle can be broken, through practice, but it can take a while. It is important to recognize that anxiety is not a permanent emotion, to remind ourselves of our safety, and to be aware of our thoughts that lead to anxiety (which are often cognitive distortions or inaccurate thoughts based on learned survival strategies).
