OFL Rotary Club and Indian Hills Interact Deliver Thousands of “Packages of Hope”

On March 14, the Oakland‑Franklin Lakes (OFL) Rotary Club joined forces with the Interact Club at Indian Hills High School to host the 6th annual Packages of Hope service event. With more than 50 volunteers working shoulder‑to‑shoulder, the group assembled nearly 2,500 nutrient‑fortified macaroni and cheese meal kits—each one destined for families across Bergen County who are facing increasing food insecurity.

The energy in the room was unmistakable. Students, Rotarians, and community members formed efficient assembly‑line teams, measuring ingredients, sealing bags, and packing boxes with purpose. Every kit represented a small but meaningful step toward easing hunger for local families.

Rotarians Alan Margreither and Angela Funk once again led the effort with dedication and heart. Alan reflected on the impact of the day, sharing, “When our community comes together like this, we’re not just packing meals—we’re delivering hope, dignity, and a reminder that no one is alone.”

Angela, a teacher at Indian Hills and the lead advisor for the school’s Interact Club, expressed pride in her students’ commitment. “These students show up year after year ready to serve,” she said. “Their enthusiasm for helping others is inspiring, and it proves that service is a powerful force when young people lead the way.”

The Oakland‑Franklin Lakes Rotary Club remains committed to its mission of Service Above Self, working to strengthen the community through hands‑on projects, youth engagement, and local partnerships.
