As New Jersey welcomes visitors from around the world for FIFA World Cup events, remember to stay safe when using rideshare services.

Sami’s Law was enacted in memory of Samantha “Sami” Josephson, a New Jersey resident who was tragically murdered after mistakenly entering a vehicle she believed was her rideshare.

Before getting into any rideshare vehicle:

- Check the license plate number in the app
- Verify the driver’s name and photo
- Confirm your destination with the driver
- Look for the required rideshare identification displayed on the vehicle

Never assume a vehicle is your ride simply because it stops near you. A few seconds spent verifying your ride can help keep you safe.

The mission of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics New Jersey movement. We are honored to support these incredible athletes!

As Memorial Day approaches, the Oakland Police Department reminds residents to celebrate safely and responsibly.

Please remember that fireworks can be dangerous and may also be distressing for veterans, individuals with sensory sensitivities, pets, and wildlife. We ask everyone to be mindful of their neighbors and community.

Since 2017, New Jersey law permits the sale and use of certain ground-based fireworks, such as hand-held sparklers, smoke devices, and party poppers. However, aerial fireworks, including bottle rockets, firecrackers, and Roman candles, remain strictly prohibited.

Residents are also reminded of Borough Ordinance 3-11 FIREWORKS:

b. It shall be unlawful to fire or discharge any toy pistol or explode or discharge any fireworks within the limits of the Borough.”

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend!

A wreath was presented in memory of Officer Daniel Hughes, who died in the line of duty in 1978. His sacrifice, and the sacrifice of all fallen officers, will never be forgotten.
