The Good Jobs Policies for the redevelopment of the former Oakland Army Base was a huge win for workers in Oakland! Companies are beginning to move and open operations at the former base.

Good Eggs, the grocery & meal kit delivery company is one such company. By locating themselves on the former Army Base, they fall under the Good Jobs Policies that we all worked so hard to pass back in 2012, including local hire, fair chance hire, living wages and limits on temp agencies.

Good Eggs is hosting a Job Fair this Saturday, 2/29 10am - 3pm at their new facility, at 2000 Maritime Street. Good Eggs is partnering with the Oakland Job Resource Center for screening and placing folks.

We're moving policies to provide good jobs for low-income people of color, breaking down economic racism. On November 9th, the Port of Oakland passed a Good Jobs Policy for its new warehousing complex. The agreement was negotiated by the Revive Oakland! Coalition and is a model for the warehousing industry. It includes living wages, local hire, limits on temping agencies, equal protections for subcontracted workers, and one of the strongest Ban the Box policies in the country. A big victory at the Port last night! We're winning good jobs for our people, transforming our local economy, and setting the standard for the warehousing industry!

Today, the Revive Oakland! Coalition made history by winning one of the most equitable jobs policies in the country! The Port Commissioners voted unanimously to pass our agreement. It helps end economic racism by providing good jobs to local low-income people of color, particularly those who have been locked out such as formerly incarcerated workers. Revive Oakland won an agreement with the Port of Oakland and warehouse developer, Centerpoint Properties, that sets groundbreaking standards for the warehousing industry which is the backbone for companies like Amazon!

If Amazon comes to the Bay Area, its profits should enrich everyone who contributes to the enterprise — including construction, service, and warehouse workers.

The City of Oakland has declared June as "Second Chances Month" to honor the incredible work of formerly incarcerated people and their allies to reform our criminal justice system with policies like Prop 47, 57 and Ban the Box. John Jones III accepted the award: "Many of us didn't even have a first chance. This is about removing barriers and giving opportunity to grow and shine. I am not the sum of my mistakes...Let's continue the great work of the Justice Reinvestment Coalition and the Revive Oakland coalition who is winning the second strongest Ban the Box policy in the country."

This morning, Revive Oakland partners: Urban Peace Movement, East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy and Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice are standing in solidarity with the Justice Reinvestment Coalition, calling on the Alameda Co. Board of Supervisors to implement the 1400 jobs policy they unanimously passed. Our formerly incarcerated community need REAL JOBS, not empty promises or hurdles.
