The Oakland Drinks Water Community Health Fair returns this Sunday, June 14 from 2 to 6pm at DeFremery Park in West Oakland. Come on out for an afternoon of wellness, education, food, giveaways, and fun!

Confirmed and invited community partners include EBMUD, Flo’s Friendly Foods, Peralta Hacienda, Kids Cooking for Life, Mercy Brown Bag, Yonus Davis Foundation, Acta Non Verba, Oakland Public Library, Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development, Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce, Black Cultural Zone, Vital Moss, Oakland Fire Department’s MACRO (Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland), and a host of other community-based partners serving Oakland residents.

This is Peralta Hacienda Historical Park. Our Encampment Management and Abatement Team offers services and support to encampment residents, and works to keep parks, schools and other high sensitivity areas in our City clear for public use.

Oakland's Housing and Community Development team leverages voter-approved Measure U funds to develop permanent supportive housing units and address the homelessness crisis head on. In 2025, 1100 new affordable housing units were actively under construction in Oakland. 👏👏👏

📢 The City of Oakland is a proud pro-housing city! This year, we've received the official California Prohousing Designation once again. This designation signifies Oakland’s commitment to accelerating housing production to meet our fair share of California's critical housing needs. The Prohousing Designation will help unlock additional funds, allowing us to scale up our efforts to build more desperately needed housing. Let's go! 👏🏘️

Oakland!!! We're pleased to announce THIS IS TOWN BUSINESS - a new campaign celebrating the small businesses that make Oakland one of the most creative, resilient, and vibrant cities anywhere.

Throughout the year, you'll get to meet the entrepreneurs, dreamers, makers, and community builders behind businesses that help Oakland thrive. Some may be places you visit every week. Others may become your next favorite spot.

Businesses featured in the campaign were nominated by the community and selected across three categories:

🚀 New Businesses bringing fresh ideas, energy, and innovation to our neighborhoods

❤️ Community Impact Businesses making a difference beyond their storefronts through leadership, service, and community investment

Starting on Small Business Saturdays, we'll spotlight one featured business at a time and share their story, their impact, and what makes them uniquely Oakland. You will also see them featured on Becker Boards across town.

While these businesses were selected for recognition, they represent something much bigger. Oakland is filled with entrepreneurs, artists, restaurateurs, retailers, and innovators doing incredible work every day.

MACRO responders are highly skilled in de-escalation and relationship-building — not enforcement. 
MACRO does not clear encampments or require people to leave spaces. Instead, responders are trained to mediate conflict, reduce tension, share information, and help community members make informed, voluntary decisions that support both individual needs and the broader community.🤝 
Recently, teams have been connecting with unhoused residents ahead of upcoming park events and activities, making sure people are aware of changes that may impact shared public spaces while offering resources, support, and respectful dialogue along the way. ❤️

This work is rooted in trust, compassion, and communication, because meaningful community safety starts with human connection.

As schools close for summer break, the City of Oakland is once again ensuring that children and youth across the city have access to nutritious meals.

Through the federally funded Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the City will provide free meals at over 50 sites citywide from June 1 through August 7, 2026. The program is open to all children ages 18 and under, as well as adults with disabilities enrolled in school programs.

Sites will operate across parks, libraries, recreation centers, and community-based organizations, continuing Oakland’s longstanding commitment to supporting youth and families during the summer months when school meals are not available. Meals meet federal nutrition standards and are provided at no cost to families.
