Earlier this afternoon, just after 1pm, Oakland Firefighters were dispatched for a working structure fire in a two story residential building in the 600 block of Webster St located between a mixed use building and a three story residential building. On arrival, Crews found heavy fire activity multiple sides and multiple levels of the property. Crews conducted an aggressive fire attack to successfully mitigate risk and damage to the two adjacent exposure properties. The building where the fire occurred was heavily fortified so access was extremely challenging. Crews ultimately knocked the fire down within 40 min and the incident was placed under control just after 2pm. There were no reports of injuries to civilians, however one firefighter was evaluated and treated at the scene for a minor injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Thank you to Falck Alameda for their presence on scene, and Oakland Police Department for assistance with traffic control in this busy commercial district.

Oakland Firefighters worked through the weekend to fight the original fire, extinguish hot spots and disassemble a 500-foot span of burned trestle. Credit to all the crews for their tireless work and coordinated efforts to remove the hazardous trestle.

A blaze that began Friday on West Grand Ave. destroyed what remained of the East Bay Electric Lines elevated rail.

Update on Wake Avenue fire: the Demolition of the remaining train trestles is underway but many Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville residents should expect to see and smell smoke from the smoldering hot spots through the evening. Phenomenal work by the Oakland Fire crews that responded to this challenging incident starting at 845pm on Saturday. OFD has been here all night and all day and look forward to releasing the remaining crews as soon as it’s safe.
