Now that the election is over and the dust has settled, I want to express my congratulations and thanks. Congratulations to Helen Koulikourdis on her win. Franklin Lakes is lucky to have you continuing to serve the district. There is not a more honest and decent person I know and one who is a fierce advocate for the students. I cannot adequately express what her friendship means to me but I can assure you that her dedication to advancing our schools should allow us all to sleep well at night. Congratulations to John Kinney. While I was not able to serve with John, I was able to run a campaign across FLOW that always put students first and John’s constant attention to asking how each policy, rule, or regulation impacted students means Wyckoff is well-positioned to have a fervent advocate for what is right.
Thank you to the countless people who worked on my re-election because they knew that I simply wanted to serve. Every single one of these people volunteered their time because they wanted the students and staff of RIH to see that they were supported. That kind of selflessness was not unnoticed and while the election result is not what we had hoped, the journey for me is a reminder that pride lies in doing the right thing in public and accepting how your legacy is written by others.
When I ran three years ago, I was met with fake fliers and doctored photos. This campaign, some of those same lies – and new ones – resurfaced. While I am frustrated that a non-partisan board of education election was injected with politics by some folks in FLOW, I am going to continue to work on finding ways for those very people to see how much we all have in common rather than trying to create division. I hope the new board that convenes in January is able to advance RIH. I will be there, now solely as a parent, to ensure that the advancement is what is best for our students and teachers.
