🚒 A GREAT DAY AT FORT UMPQUA DAYS! 🍬
Kellogg Rural Fire District was happy to join the Fort Umpqua Days Parade in Elkton on Saturday! Our crew brought a fire truck to the festivities and handed out candy along the parade route. It was a treat for us to see so many happy faces lining the streets.
A big thank you to our partners at Elkton Rural Fire Protection District for inviting us to join the fun. We work together as mutual aid partners when our communities need us, and it’s great to also come together for positive community events like this one. We’re already looking forward to next year!
Congratulations and thank you to the amazing folks at the Elkton Community Education Center and everyone who helped put on another successful Fort Umpqua Days festival!

𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗𝗦

At 6:09 p.m. today, crews from Kellogg Rural Fire District were dispatched to a rollover crash at the Tyee Curve along Highway 138 West.

Fortunately, the driver was not injured and was able to self-extricate from the overturned vehicle. The crash occurred as rain was creating slick road conditions in the area.

After virtually no rainfall for several months, recent rain has made area roads especially slick. During long dry stretches, oil, dust and other residue build up on the roadway. When the first rains arrive, that buildup can create surprisingly slippery conditions.

Please slow down, allow extra following distance and use additional caution—especially on curves and other areas where roads may be slick.

MAKE IT RAIN!
Last night at our weekly drill, the crew from Kellogg Rural Fire District drafted water from the Umpqua River with our 1990 Pierce Mfg Type 1 pumper and had some fun making it rain!
Using a 5-inch intake hose, we supplied the truck directly from the river and flowed an estimated 500–1,000 gallons per minute through the deck gun mounted on top of the engine. That's a lot of water, and a great way to train while testing our equipment.
Our new junior firefighters got a real blast out of the experience, and it was a great opportunity for everyone to practice drafting operations, pump work, and flowing large volumes of water.

🚨 LOG TRUCK CRASH ON TYEE CURVE 🚨
This morning at 7:04 a.m., Kellogg Rural Fire District was dispatched to an overturned log truck near the intersection of Highway 138 West and Tyee Road at the Tyee Curve.
The truck left the roadway on the sharp curve and overturned, spilling its load of logs. The driver was transported by Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
Along with the KRFD team, responders included Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon State Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
Crews remained on scene for several hours with one-way traffic control while the logs were transferred to another truck and the crash scene was cleared.

Please remember to slow down, stay alert, and give emergency responders plenty of room to work whenever you encounter an incident on our roadways. We appreciate everyone's patience while crews worked to safely reopen the highway.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 9 PM PDT WEDNESDAY 🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area beginning Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. and continuing through 9:00 p.m. due to strong, gusty winds, very low humidity, and unstable fire weather conditions.

These conditions mean that any fire that starts could spread rapidly and become dangerous in a very short amount of time.

Forecast conditions include:
🔥 Northwest winds of 10–15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph
🔥 Relative humidity dropping to 8–15%
🔥 Dry, unstable conditions that could increase fire activity

The warning includes Elkton, Roseburg, Toketee Falls, Tiller, and surrounding areas, including the Kellogg Rural Fire District response area.

As always, we ask everyone in our rural community to do their part:
• Follow all current fire restrictions.
• Avoid activities that could create sparks.
• Make sure your property is ready in case of an emergency.
• Sign up for your county’s emergency alert system if you haven’t already.

Living in a rural community means we depend on one another. Please take a moment to check in on neighbors—especially those who may need extra assistance or may not be aware of the increased fire danger. Looking out for each other is one of the things that makes our community strong.

A Red Flag Warning does not mean there is a wildfire. It means weather conditions are favorable for fires to start and spread rapidly if one does occur. Please stay alert, have multiple ways to receive emergency information, and be prepared to act if conditions change.

One less spark. One less wildfire.
