The Township of Ocean Police Department wants residents and visitors to be aware of important changes to New Jersey’s e-bike and motorized bicycle laws that will take effect in July 2026.

These new regulations are designed to improve safety for riders, pedestrians, and motorists while providing clear guidelines for the operation of e-bikes and motorized bicycles throughout our community.

We encourage all riders and parents to review the new regulations and ensure they understand the requirements before taking to the road.

Know the rules. Ride with care. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The next Statewide Goal:Zero high visibility enforcement detail is scheduled for Saturday June 6, 2026. On the morning of June 6, 2010, Trooper Marc Castellano was walking along the shoulder of Interstate 195 West near the Exit 31 ramp in Howell Township, searching for an armed suspect connected to an ongoing investigation. He was tragically struck by a passing motorist and died from his injuries later that day at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. This all-day enforcement effort will focus strictly on education and enforcement of the “Move Over Law” in Trooper Castellano’s memory.

Roadways included in the State’s High Injury Network will be the focus of this month’s detail in Monmouth County. These areas included all of Route 9 and State Highway 35 in Ocean Twp and Neptune Twp. Agencies throughout the State will be participating by using enforcement efforts where the most crashes occur in their jurisdictions.

The intent of this high visibility campaign is to confront the staggering rise in traffic deaths NJ has seen in recent years. Traffic Safety culture and driving behaviors need to change in order to keep people alive on NJ roadways. Law Enforcement agencies are dedicated to lowering these numbers and keeping our roadways safe. As of today (6/5/2026), 211 people have already lost their lives on NJ roadways in 2026. 13 of these deaths occurred in Monmouth County.

This past week, Officers from OTPD participated in several activities with the sixth grade students at OTIS to celebrate their completion of the LEAD program. The students worked hard throughout the year with their LEAD instructors and this gave them a chance to have some fun outside of the classroom. Thanks to Wegmans, BJs, Chick Fil a and Wawa for their donations to make this a great day for everyone involved.
