We are preparing to start our next CERT basic class on Tuesday, September 29.

The class is approximately 20 hours long and consists of a combination of classroom and practical sessions. The training will teach you basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available. With training, practice, and by working as a team, you will be able to
protect yourself and maximize your capability to help after a disaster.

The training is free and all the necessary materials will be provided. Once you complete the training you will have the option of joining the CERT for the Township, though it is not required.
Please go to https://oceantwp.org/p/cert-registration for more information and to register.

From the NWS Mt Holly:
A Flood Watch is now in effect for portions of northern Delaware, southeast Pennsylvania, and New Jersey from midnight tonight through noon Sunday.

Low pressure will lift north through the region late tonight through Sunday morning. Showers and thunderstorms associated with that low will be capable of producing excessive rainfall rates leading to possible flash flooding.

Hazardous Weather: Heavy rain leading to flash flooding is possible. Rainfall rates around 2 inches per hour will be possible with any stronger showers or storms. The Slight Risk, or 2 out of 4, for flash flooding was expanded to include northern Delaware, all of southeast Pennsylvania, and most of New Jersey. The rest of the region is in a Marginal Risk, or 1 out of 4. The risk for severe thunderstorms is very low.

Locations affected: The greatest risk is in the more flash flood prone urban areas near and along the I-95 corridor, particularly from Wilmington to Philadelphia to near Trenton.

Timing: Mainly late night into early Sunday morning.

Impacts: 1-2 inches of rain in a very short period of time can lead to flash flooding particularly in urban areas, potentially leading to localized road closures. Some smaller, faster responding creeks and streams could flood.

Confidence on occurrence: Confidence on the axis of the heaviest rain being along the I-95 corridor has increased.

Next report will be sent by 5 PM.

Let's come together to honor the heroes we lost on 9/11/01 with a moment of silence this morning. Ocean Township proudly remembers the ultimate sacrifices of two hometown heroes: John G. Monahan, who gave his life on 9/11/01, and Robert J. Agostini, Battalion Chief for North Hudson Fire & Rescue, whose bravery on that fateful day inspired us until his passing in 2013 due to his service on that day . 💫✨

Potential for some rough weather later tonight.

Potential for some rough weather later tonight.

The Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) has been expanded to include most of our area. The main severe potential is focused primarily on tonight. The intensity, extent and timing depends on thunderstorm development well to our west and northwest this afternoon.
