On June 20th, Oak Point's 50th Anniversary Celebration isn't just about our city's birthday — it's also a proud salute to America's 250th birthday! 🎆🇺🇸 That's TWO incredible milestones, ONE unforgettable night!

We are beyond honored to be hosting a special Veterans Tribute as part of the celebration — because none of the freedoms we enjoy, none of the communities we've built, and none of the memories we've made would be possible without the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for this great nation. 🎖️

Did you know Oak Point is home to over 300 veterans? We are so proud to honor them on this special night. 💛

Big celebrations don't plan themselves — and behind Oak Point's 50th Anniversary Celebration is an incredibly dedicated group of people who have poured their hearts into making this night unforgettable for ALL of us! 🎉

If there was ever a woman built to survive anything, it was Mrs. C.C. Orr of the Floyd community — which sits right in the heart of what we now call Oak Point.

In July 1919, passersby found her lying unconscious in a pool of water, struck down by a bolt of lightning. Her clothes were burned at the collar and down the side of her dress. She was found with "life almost extinct." Three hours later, she regained consciousness.

But here's the thing — this wasn't even close to Mrs. Orr's first brush with death.
A few years earlier, a rifle discharged near her as she walked between her house and barn. The bullet passed between her lips without touching her teeth.

Then came the dog bite — an animal suspected of having rabies. It didn't.

Then a runaway horse took off with her buggy. With her infant daughter aboard, Mrs. Orr threw the child clear of the wreck and jumped herself. The buggy was badly broken up before the horse stopped. Both survived.

Lightning. A stray bullet. A rabid dog scare. A runaway horse. The woman lived through all of it on the rolling prairie of Denton County.

The Floyd community was one of the earliest settlements in this part of North Texas, named for the Floyd family who put down roots here in the post-Civil War era. Today that same land is Oak Point — a quiet lakeside city where it's easy to forget just how wild and unforgiving life here once was.

Oak Point, we have been keeping a little secret and we simply cannot hold it in any longer! 🤩🎉

We are absolutely THRILLED to announce that the emcee for the Oak Point 50th Anniversary Celebration will be none other than...

🌟 MIKE DOOCY 🌟 Lead Sportscaster, KDFW FOX 4

That's right — one of North Texas's most beloved and recognizable voices will be RIGHT HERE in Oak Point on June 20th helping us ring in 50 incredible years! 🎊

Mike Doocy has been the lead sportscaster at KDFW FOX 4 since 1994 — which means he’s reported on just about everything North Texas sports fans have experienced, including an actual Cowboys Super Bowl win. (Yes, it really happened. Ask your parents.)

Mike and his wife Ruth moved to Oak Point in late 2024 and quickly fell in love with the community, the lake life, and - we're guessing - the lack of traffic. They’re the proud parents of daughters Christina and Laura, and are now happily embracing their favorite titles yet: Grandpa and Grandma to grandson Harrison.

When he’s not covering sports, Mike can usually be found enjoying Oak Point life, telling stories from the glory days, or reminding Cowboys fans that he once covered a championship parade in person.

Mike isn't just our emcee — he's one of US. And we could not think of a better person to help us celebrate this milestone night!

Mayor Eileen Turner was elected in May 1997 and took office the same month. In an interview with The Little Elm Journal she stated that her highest priority was the roads in Oak Point.
