Join CMHB and Riveredge Hospital for the next Rise N Learn webinar- October 2nd at 9am!

"Age is Not the Diagnosis: Geriatric-Informed Mental Health Care"
Presented by Nicole Rea, MA, MSW, LCSW
Clinical Services Manager for Senior & Disability Services at Oak Park Township

As Illinois’ older adult population grows, behavioral health professionals are increasingly called upon to provide effective care to older adults, yet many receive limited training in geriatric mental health. This interactive presentation challenges common myths and age-related biases while exploring how mental health concerns can present differently in later life and intersect with physical health, cognition, social connection, and functional wellbeing. Participants will learn how geriatric-informed care replaces assumptions about “normal aging” with thoughtful assessment and evidence-based, holistic approaches that promote autonomy, resilience, engagement, and quality of life. The webinar will also offer practical strategies for adapting clinical practice and highlight local and statewide resources, including Oak Park Township’s Thriving in Aging Program (TAP).
