🍎 AmeriCorps VISTA (3 positions): We are hiring for 3 AmeriCorps VISTA Capacity Building members! Each VISTA will work closely with either our Home Delivery, Food Pantry, or Development team to assist with essential activities like survey building and distribution, developing training modules for volunteers, and creating fundraising strategies.
🍎 As we work towards implementing an online market for our neighbors, the Online Market Assistant will be critical in managing market operations and project planning.

Who’s cooking in the Healthy Chef Challenge? Our competitor lineup is here!

🍽️ Emily Schneman is chef at Michelin star-winning El Ideas. She is also the former chef of Asta (Boston), Atelier, Jeong and Motorshucker.

🍽️ Jose Marquez is the co-owner of and chef at Piacere Mio (Forest Park). He is the former chef of La Parra and Regalia and has over 30 years of restaurant experience.

🍽️ Sieger Bayer is the cofounder of bar BERRIA and former chef of The Publican, Tortello, and The Heritage. He can also be seen on season 23 of Top Chef!

Our Healthy Chef Challenge judges are here, and the lineup is looking incredible!

🔪 Andrew Zimmerman, culinary strategist, is the former Executive Chef of the 15-Michelin Star restaurant Sepia. He is also a 5x James Beard Award finalist, winner of Iron Chef America, and Plate Magazine's Humanitarian of the Year.
🔪 Phil Vettel is a Healthy Chef Challenge veteran judge, and long-time Chicago Tribune journalist and restaurant critic. He has a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Restaurant Association, and is a Jean Banchet Award recipient.
🔪 Greg Wade is a managing partner of Publican Quality Break and last year's Healthy Chef Challenge Champion. He is also a James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Baker, Author of "Bread Head", and a founding member of Artisan Grain Collective.

May 1st marks the beginning of SNAP cutoffs due to new federal rules regarding eligibility. An estimated 120,000 Illinois residents are at risk of losing benefits and facing increased hunger this month.

Earth Day was last week, and at Beyond Hunger we are consistently looking for ways to make a difference for our planet. Our food recovery program consists of over 15 local and chain grocery stores and restaurants (Trader Joe's in Oak Park, Daly Bagel, and Jimmy John's on Lake Street to name a few).

Through this program, we are able to divert foods that would otherwise become food waste onto our shelves. Our partners help us recover 157 tons of food every year, helping the planet AND helping to keep our neighbors' kitchens full.
