From May 6-8, Norup 8th grade students had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. Students had the opportunity to apply what they learned in their Social Studies classes and experience the curriculum within the context of their own lives.

Students had a full three days, visiting the following on the trip: Museum of the US Army, Smithsonian Museums, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean Memorial, Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, the US Capitol, Kennedy Theatre Rooftop, Holocaust Museum, the African American Museum and the National Harbor.

In addition, students had a VIP tour of the Maryland State Capitol in Annapolis including visiting with the Lieutenant Governor, arranged by a relative of a Norup 8th grader.

The Berkley High School seniors said goodbye to BHS and to their teachers by walking the halls one last time during the Senior Clap Out on May 19, 2026. Seniors started by gathering to watch the Senior Video, a collection of photos and videos from their time in Berkley Schools. Afterward, they dispersed into the hallway where they walked through a clap out, greeted by their friends and beloved staff members cheering them on. This emotional final lap is an annual tradition.

Seniors were also invited for a final clap out at their elementary and middle schools. During the afternoon of May 19, seniors gathered at their elementary schools to walk through the halls one last time, greeted by clapping students and teachers. The seniors found their former teachers, gave hugs and high-fives, and enjoyed looking at the buildings to see what was different and what remained the same.

After the elementary clap out, seniors were encouraged to then visit their middle schools and enjoy a clap out there as well.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026, who graduate tonight at Meadow Brook!

Superintendents from across Oakland County recently joined together in an informational video discussing the Regional Enhancement Millage proposal that will appear on the August 4, 2026 ballot.

The video provides community members with background information about the proposal, how a Regional Enhancement Millage works in Michigan, and how additional funding could support local public school districts and eligible public school academies across Oakland County.

If approved by voters, the proposal would levy 1.5 mills for six years to provide additional funding directly to local public school districts and eligible public school academies. Funding would be distributed on a per-student basis, estimated at approximately $781 per student annually.
Importantly, all funds generated would go directly to local districts and eligible public school academies. Oakland Schools would not receive any of the funding.

Potential uses of the funds could include:

• Attracting and retaining high-quality staff
• Supporting student academic, social-emotional, and mental health needs
• Maintaining appropriate class sizes
• Enhancing school safety and security
• Sustaining and improving educational programming

On April 21, 2026, the Cranbrook Institute of Science visited Pattengill Kindergarten students for a Science on the Go program sponsored by the Pattengill PTA. The Cranbrook staff taught students ‘what makes an insect an insect’ and how insects differ from arachnids. Students also reviewed a collection of cockroaches and learned how important they are to the ecosystem and how they break down old food scraps. Students also saw a tarantula and learned about its body parts, habitats and impressive web-building skills.

Burton Elementary held its fourth annual Culture Fest on May 7, 2026. Burton’s PTA planned this event with the goal of sharing and celebrating the cultural heritage of Burton families.

Participating families set up booths representing France, England, Jamaica, the Netherlands, Ireland, Ghana, Poland, Mexico, Ukraine, South Korea, LGBTQ, Neurodiversity, Jewish culture, India and much more. Families shared facts and stories, along with their displays featuring flags, maps, information, photographs, videos, artifacts, treats and other culturally significant items.

Attendees were given passports to take to each table, earning stickers as they learned about each culture. Families could also place stickers on a large world map showing where their families are from.

The PTA also arranged to have food trucks available for families, representing many cultures as well.
