Pack 16 Oak Park Cub Scouts

Pack 16 Oak Park Cub Scouts Pack 16 is part of the Portage Creek District and the Pathway to Adventure Council. Our chartering organization is First United Church.

Cub Scout Pack 16, Oak Park, is part of the Twin Lakes District, and a member of Pathway to Adventure Council. With over 60 registered scouts, cubs include grades K-5 (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, & Arrow of Light). In 2018 Pack 16 became an early adopter of the new 'Lions' program for Kindergartener's. Pack 16 is also the Districts only eligible early adopter for GIRLS in scouting. We are ac

cepting registrations for girls now who are between 1st and 4th grades. Our monthly Pack Meetings are held the fourth Monday evening of each month (September through June) at First United Church. Pack 16 was founded on a platform of equality for scouts, leaders and parents.

When: Friday, July 4, 2025: Meet at 9:30am; parade starts at 10am
Where: Meet near the intersection of Adams and Cuyler (near the north end of Longfellow Park)
Wear: Class A uniforms

We will have a special treat for scouts who attend and want to make sure we have enough; please let us know if you plan to march with us! RSVP!

In past years, we've sometimes seen more scouts watching us than marching with us; please come help support your fellow scouts and show the community what a large, amazing community we are! We'll have a special treat for our scouts at the end of the parade so they don't feel like they are missing out by participating instead of being a spectator.

Meet at 9:30am on Adams at Cuyler (by the northeast corner of Longfellow Park). We will be #21 in the parade lineup, between OPRF Cheerleading and the Oak Park Art League.

The parade starts promptly at 10:00am and runs north along Ridgeland to Augusta and Whittier Elementary. Scouts should wear their full Class A uniform (shirt, hat, neckerchief, etc.)

Please email [email protected] with any questions.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Come march with SCOUTS FOR EQUALITY to celebrate 10 years! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

This is a truly special experience to march with Scouts for Equality! Every year we are moved to see scouts in the crowd with emotional responses to seeing us march by. Marching in the parade is a great way to experience Pride without having to stand with the crowds of onlookers. We are literally the front of the entire parade. Scouts for Equality serves as the color guard for the parade, typically followed by the Mayor of Chicago.

DATE: Sunday, June 29th
TIME: Arrive by 10am

Yes, the parade starts at 11am, but this is a big production and organizers need folks lined up early, especially as we are at the front of the parade. There will be portable toilets by the staging area.

LOCATION: Broadway & West Sheridan
We are at the very front of the parade. Look for a light green classic car.

COMMUNICATION: We are creating a WhatsApp subgroup chat you can join.

Brian Dailey is leading coordination for Pack 16, so catch him on WhatsApp or text or call with any questions (Brian's cell: 319-230-5585).

UNIFORMS: Wear Class A uniforms, plus any Pride gear you want to add

WHAT TO BRING: Bring along water, snacks, and sunscreen. Wagons work great.

TRANSPORTATION: Use public transportation or book a parking spot quickly - It's going to be crowded.
SpotHero has a few decently priced spots left
Brian has a parking spot reserved at 3213 N Wilton Avenue, which is a pretty central location and worked well last year. Brian has 3-4 seats available if you'd like to ride along from Oak Park. Please text him (319-230-5585) to coordinate.

PARADE DETAILS: The parade goes on rain or shine - there's no stopping equality!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS WEEKEND'S PACK 16 CAMPOUT
πŸŒ²β›ΊπŸŒ²

WHATSAPP GROUP:
In an effort to streamline some of our communications both den and Pack events, we’re attempting to use a WhatsApp Community as a supplemental tool to share news, information, den highlights, etc. Once you are approved to join the larger community, please request to join your relevant Den Chats and the group for the May 2025 campout. (We'll still be checking the Pack email during the campout.) Please note, this is a closed group so photos of activities are not publicly shared, they are only visible by other members of this WhatsApp community.

Please follow the link below:

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING:
Camp Lowden
4418 Scout Road
Oregon, IL 61061

Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Utk6i2Wd79kTxFGC9

You MUST park in the parking lot and carry your gear to the campsites. Do NOT attempt to drive to the campsite. The campsites are a short walk - not a long hike - from the parking lot. If you have a collapsible / folding wagon you may want to bring it to transport your gear, but it is in no way necessary.

CHECK-IN:
All campers should check-in with their den leaders to receive instructions before setting up their tent as we have multiple campsites reserved. Please proceed to the Frontiersman Campsite just south of the parking lot to check-in before unloading all of your gear. Your den may be setting up at a different campsite. (See Camp Lowden Map at: https://www.camplowden.org/map/cbh9p22bqn6suxlgem796w5tdiuxvn)

HEALTH FORMS:
You MUST have a completed BSA health and medical record form for each camping participant (Scouts, siblings, and adults). If you went on the October 2024 campout we likely already have a valid health form for you. If not, please print out completed forms to be turned in at check-in.

FAMILIES OF 5TH GRADE SCOUTS WHO ARE CROSSING OVER:
Your scout will receive a special plaque as part of the ceremony. These handmade plaques are 2' long and made from pine wood that can be damaged if not handled carefully. Please bring a towel, blanket, packing paper, etc. to safely transport your scout's plaque home after the campout.

PROHIBITED ITEMS:
Do not bring pets, fi****ms, bows, ammunition of any kind, alcohol, to***co products, or clothing / items featuring drugs, alcohol, to***co products, or vulgar language.

SCHEDULE:
Friday, May 2
