Meet Vader!

The City of Oak Park and the Public Safety Department are excited to announce a special community-wide event coming soon; The K9 Meet & Greet!

We are putting out the call to residents of all ages to come mix, mingle and meet with the newest four-legged member of the Oak Park Public Safety team— K9 Officer Vader— and his dedicated handler, Officer Kyle Lawless!

The K9 Meet and Greet will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm, and will be held at the Oak Park Community Center, located at 14300 Oak Park Blvd.

This Community Meet & Greet will offer you the chance to meet Vader and Officer Lawless, learn more about their specific training and expertise, observe real world skills demonstrations, ask questions, get acquainted and much more!
You can also have your picture taken with Officer Lawless and K-9 Vader!

Please help us help Oak Park families in need this holiday season! We have a list of families who are unable to provide gifts for their children and we can only give what we receive. Gift cards are best so parents can pick out gifts for their children. Target, Meijer, and Amazon are the most requested.

Gift cards can be dropped off at the Oak Park Library during business hours or you can stand us an e-gift card to [email protected]

Thank you for helping us to make sure every child has a gift to open this year. ❤️

Donations can be dropped at the library through Dec. 16!

Oak Park Youth Assistance is here for you!

Youth Assistance Programs are community-based, and developed by volunteers who live and/ or work in the surrounding communities. The Oakland County Circuit Court provides the professional staff to work with the volunteers and to provide direct casework services. Ferndale Youth Assistance works under the sponsorship and financial support of the Oak Park School District, City of Oak Park, and Oakland County Circuit Court-Family Division.

Our Board of Directors has been reorganized as of October 2018, and we have many plans and ideas to support our Oak Park kids and families. Over the last year, we have participated in March is Reading Month, with our Board Members reading to classes around the Oak Park School District. In addition, we not only held our annual Pancake Breakfast on the 4th of July, but we added a Tin Can Auction, with over 60 donated prizes available to win, raising money for Oak Park Youth Assistance. We have sent kids to camp this summer, provided short term counseling to children, and we are working to become more active in the community. Our 2019-2020 goals include a mentoring program at one of the elementary schools, a fun community event on Saturday, November 2, 2019 (details to come very soon!!), and we are looking at a yoga/meditation program for students this school year. Follow us for more news and updates!

We are in need of volunteers!! If you can help out, on planning committees or at events, please send us a message here.
