Celebrating 150 Years of Grads: Transitions, Trends, and Trophies
The 2010s brought massive transformation, historic sports dominance, and literal world fame to Stillwater Area High School! As our campus expanded in 2017 to welcome 9th graders, Ponies were rewriting the record books and capturing the internet's attention.
The Viral Timeline: SAHS owned social media this decade! In 2012, students made national headlines when "Moses" parted the Homecoming Red Sea bleachers. 2013 graduate Zach Sobiech inspired the world with his song "Clouds" which hit number 1 on iTunes shortly before he died of cancer. In 2015, our Concert Choir went global singing in an Iowa hotel pool. In 2016, Noah Cates hit ESPN SportsCenterโs Top 10 with his double-OT spinorama hockey goal. And in 2018, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took over our morning intercom to answer a promposal!
The Historic 2017-2018 School Year: 18 teams and clubs competed at the state level with Stillwater winning six state championships: Mountain biking, Girls alpine skiing, Girls Nordic skiing, Girls gymnastics, Girls softball, and Boys baseball. Four teams placed second at state, including boys cross country, boys soccer, boys Nordic skiing and girls synchronized swimming.
Minds, Voices, & Community: Excellence thrived far beyond sports. The Pony Express newspaper and Kabekonian yearbook were named among the top in the country, our speech and debate teams were a constant state tournament force, while robotics exploded onto the scene.
Letโs hear from our 2010s Alumni! ๐ฃ
