JUNE 13, 2026 • NO WAKE ... UPDATE!

Mid-Program update from Police Chief Charlie Morris, as we're a little over halfway through the initial evaluation of our new "No Wake Zone: Street Safety Campaign."
The response has been so great, you may have noticed the campaign is already expanding to other key traffic areas!

Much more than the streetside signage, this campaign has also delivered stronger interaction between our officers and the community. From walkers and cyclists to LSV and car drivers, we've seen tremendous improvements from everyone in how they share the streets safely.

We'll be working even harder to keep the momentum going throughout the coming weeks. In the meantime, learn more about how you can get involved at OakIslandNC.gov/STREETS

Last week’s Kayak Tour was amazing! The weather was nice and cool in the morning, and paddlers even got to see a loggerhead turtle while on their trip … you never know who (or what) you’ll see when on the water!

JULY 1, 2026 • BEACH DAY UPDATE

The Traffic Information has been added! Help us spread the word and ensure a safe enjoyable evening for everyone, by sharing the updated information at OakIslandNC.gov/BeachDay

TRAFFIC: The Oak Island Police Department reminds everyone of the Post-Fireworks Traffic Plan, asking ALL vehicles to EXIT the Island using the Swain's Cut Bridge at Middleton Ave. While this route may be a few extra miles of travel for some, it will make for faster travel for everyone, as it utilizes the multiple lanes of E.F. Middleton Blvd.

PARKING: As a reminder, Beach Day is a Town-sponsored event, meaning Paid Parking will NOT be enforced throughout the entire day in the Middleton Park Complex area, from SE 46th St - SE 49th St. All other areas will operate under normal enforcement. Paid Parking ends at 5:00 PM each day, and will NOT impact the Fireworks Display that evening (parking in all locations for this event will be first-come, first-served).

We had a great time yesterday with the Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program when they stopped by to drop off some delicious snacks and refreshments!

The dedicated leadership and volunteers of OISTPP provide a valuable service to the wildlife of our area, and are a great example of the working relationship we enjoy with many of our community partners.

A sincere THANK YOU for this donation, as it will go a long way towards helping our busy officers during the busy weeks ahead!
