Oak Harbor Public Schools

Oak Harbor Public Schools Empowering students. Growing together.

This is a community page and we welcome comments and feedback that follow our District's civility policy.

See details in our "About" section. Our schools serve over 5,400 students on eleven campuses which include one comprehensive high school, a middle school, intermediate school, five elementary schools, a K-12 parent-school partnership school and virtual academy, and an early learning center. All place a strong emphasis on academics, the arts and student achievement. Our schools are located on North

Whidbey Island, where students enjoy unmatched learning opportunities in the classroom and in our diverse coastal environment. Social Media User Guidelines

Oak Harbor Public Schools welcomes open dialog and community input on our social media sites. Our page is a place where our students, families, communities, teachers, principals, staff, and supporters can come together around our school district and our mission. We simply ask that participants remain respectful. Because Oak Harbor Public Schools serve school-aged children, content posted on social media by the district and commenters must use language, style, tone and content that is generally acceptable for school-aged children and families. Comments that do not illustrate civility, respect, and reasoned dialogue will be removed. Comments that exceed 100 words in length or sequential comments posted by a single user may also be removed due to space considerations and constraints. Additionally, the district reserves the right to remove comments and ban users using obscene or disrespectful language, sexual content, and comments or posts that threaten or defame any person or organization, violate the legal ownership interest of another party, support or oppose political candidates or ballot propositions, promote illegal activity, promote commercial services or products, are not topically related to the particular posting, include links to other files or sites, reveal or reference protected student information, contain contents that promote, foster, or perpetuate hate and/or discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation, or violate board policy or procedure. All content related to district business on this social media site is a public record, subject to retention and disclosure. The district does not express approval or support for the views expressed by third-parties. If you would like a private response to a post on this site, please send an e-mail to [email protected]. We’re proud to announce our final Star of the Year honoree! Congratulations to Dr. Emily Couch, our Leader of the Year!

Pictured here with her dedicated Teaching and Learning team, Amber Williams and Kristen Smith, Dr. Couch exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose. In a year that called for extraordinary leadership, she stepped in as Interim Director of Teaching and Learning, providing steady guidance, clear direction, and continued progress during a time of transition.

Beyond her impact in our district, Dr. Couch also serves as President of the Oak Harbor Education Foundation Board, where she is helping to reimagine and strengthen support for our schools and students.

Thank you, Dr. Couch, for your unwavering commitment to our community and for leading with heart!

Our next Star of the Year award goes to..... JR Sosky at Hillcrest Elementary School! JR received the Employee of the Year award for Inclusion and Belonging because of his exceptional impact at Hillcrest, stepping in mid-year as the Dean of Students with positivity, confidence and a natural ability to connect with students and staff.

During his time at Hillcrest, he has built strong, trusting relationships with students, creating a supportive and engaging environment where they feel respected, understood, and motivated to grow. Known for his calm, steady presence, JR approaches challenges with patience and a solutions-focused mindset, helping maintain stability and positivity throughout the school.
