The "Fighting Marlins" of Patrol Squadron FORTY (VP-40) recently held a Change of Command ceremony, celebrating a legacy of leadership and looking forward to the next chapter of our squadron's history.

During the ceremony, we bid a fond farewell to Cmdr. James Miller, who has expertly guided VP-40 with unwavering dedication and commitment. Thank you, Skipper, for your outstanding service to the Marlins. We wish you the absolute best in your next assignment!

We are equally proud to welcome our new Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Brett Butterfield. We stand ready to execute the mission under your leadership as we continue to project sea power and uphold the highest standards of naval aviation.

Recently, our command held our first awards quarters since returning from deployment — a chance to recognize the hard work, dedication, and professionalism our Sailors demonstrated every day while forward deployed.

From long hours to mission success, this team showed what it means to stay ready and deliver when it matters most. The accomplishments recognized today are a direct reflection of the effort put in by the entire squadron throughout deployment.

After a successful deployment, our Sailors returned home and were reunited with their families and loved ones right off the aircraft — a moment filled with hugs, smiles, and a lot of well-earned emotion.

This homecoming marks the end of months of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to the mission. None of it would be possible without the unwavering support from families back home who stand behind our Sailors every step of the way.

🚁 Reenlisted and ready to keep charging forward!

AWO2 Hurst officially reenlisted in a truly unforgettable way — taking his oath after an incredible helicopter ride courtesy of HSC-28. Talk about making the moment count!

Opportunities like this don’t happen without teamwork, and we want to extend a huge thank you to HSC-28 for making this experience possible and helping turn a milestone in a Sailor’s career into a once-in-a-lifetime event.
