On 01 AUG we held a Change of Command where CAPT David "Heavy" Ganci turned over command of COMVAQWINGPAC to CAPT Adam "Pookie" Green. We would also like to welcome CAPT Ben "Maggie" Cooper back to Whidbey Island as he assumes the role of DCDRE. Following the Change of Command, a Retirement Ceremony was held celebrating CAPT Ganci's accomplished Naval career. Thank you MC1 William Sykes of VP-47 for the fantastic photos!

Royal Australian Air Force and United States Navy personnel stationed at NAS Whidbey Island commemorate ANZAC day on the 25th of April 2024. The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Anzac day orginally served to honor the members of the ANZAC who served in the Gallipoli campaign but has since grown to honor all Australian and New Zealand servicemembers who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

BZ AE1!

Earlier this week, NAS Whidbey Island’s Commanding Officer, Capt. Eric Hanks, and Commander Electronic Attack Wing Commodore, Capt. David Ganci, recognized Aviation Electrician First Class Austin Harrison with a Special Achievement Award for his actions on March 22, 2024.

That day, Harrison, a member of the base’s Auxiliary Security Force, was working at Langley Gate as a sentry when he detected suspicious activity in a vehicle that was attempting to gain entry to the base. He immediately alerted the Navy Security patrol officer which led to the apprehension of three individuals attempting an unauthorized entry. Harrison’s keen attention to detail and quick actions prevented the unauthorized transportation of material on to the base, as well as the apprehension and debarment of the three suspects attempting the unlawful entry.
